Any good films this year; Mandarin or Cantonese?

i think Ip Man 2 is good this year.

Is Ip Man 2 as good as Ip Man?  I really enjoyed the first one.  Any good Triad/gangster films?

IMO, Ipman > Ipman2 > Ipman 3(prequel)

I heard Some HK ghost movies are genuinely scarey, anyone want to point me towards some?

I agree Ipman has got to be the best Chinese movie so far this year as well as Ipman, but out of chinese film, i saw a korean film entitled the Good the bad and the weird (no relation to the one directed by Sergio Leone). What interest me in this film was that it was a western film being played all by asian in an asian POV/setting.

well, Aftershock will easily be the biggest hit in all of Asia this year (movie from China).

I'm looking forward to seeing Legend of the Fist:  the Return of Chen Zhen as well (HK movie).

As far as ghost movies goes, The Eye from a few years back is a copy of the movie Seven (or is it the other way around) but it is damn scary...

The first Ip man was a lot better than the other 2 ip man and reign of assassins was pretty good...HK hasn't been producing those killer movies like they did before

I really liked AfterShock but they really could have found a much better White dude to play the husband, the whole movie was pretty good up until the white guy's terrible acting,  I don't know what the fuck kinda accent he was using but it sure hell wasn't canadian.  

IPman 2 was good, a good China movie that I really enjoyed was "under the hawthorn tree" a little artsy but overall a great tearjerker to watch with the SO (mandarin only since it's directly from CHina)  

Death and Glory in CHangde will make any CHinese person hate the Japanese for a few days, another great movie and another great performance by ray lui

Flirting scholar 2 was so so, how they could make a #2 without stephen chow? fucking beats me.

Curse of the deserted was good, similar backdrop feel to Shutter Island, I enjoyed it.

Breakup club is garbage, i couldn't even get thru it.

For scary movies, there was a movie called Seven nights? maybe jesun and i are talking about the same movie with the taxi driver...  I really enjoyed that one, well written and the cast was pretty decent except the mother didn't have the range to play such a big age difference.  The sexy scenes (although clean) were very arousing.

I saw Return of Chen Zhen in the cinema a few weeks ago.
Great film, Donnie Yen is amazing in it. Best to watch it in the cinema with the surround sound;
alot of action at the beginning of the film with guns/martial arts then it switches to some good humor, the end
fight in the movie is awesome.

Bodyguards and Assassins is also worth watching.

red cliff 2 had already out last year. you can get their DVD or VCD easily.

72 tenants & love in a puff is pretty entertaining if you're into comedies and dark comedies

Yeah 72 tenants was funny, love in a puff was a bit weird for me, there was another one with Richie Ren too about Miriam Yeung having breast cancer or something.  Richie Ren has been doing a lot of movies lately.  I don't particularly like him.

i also think Perfect Wedding is a good movie this year. it is a love story movie, so don't expect any big sound or 3D effects but my idol chrissie chau is in the movie.

Love in a Puff hands down, for a local production it's really quite well made. But you have to be a smoker AND an office drone to get it 100%.

The love story was very HKish, you have to understand the stupidity of dating in HK as locals.  So many walls, so much pride and always useless conflict.  When I talk to my female relatives in HK and explain my situation with the wife, they have no idea what is going on and they have no confidence in a real loving relationship.  

I tell them that I love my wife, my females cousins ask me time and time again, "you love her?" My male cousins say, "oh, you let her have too much power, this and that when you say you love her in front of people, show some pride man!"  

But in China, the tides have changed.  Men love their wives!  If you ask a happily married guy if he loves his wife, he will say, "of course I love my wife, why the fuck would I ask her to marry me then?" and then call you ON LUN 9.

My HK relatives think I am lying that I love my wife, been with her more than half my life now and I am relatively young.  They all have that "love in a puff" concept of love.  Too fucking complex if you ask me.  A duel/dual chase shouldn't last so long with so many idiotic barriers and doubts.  Love is supposed to be about some blind faith, not fucking perfect math.

I just saw Aftershock and it was really good.  Ip Man 2 was good as well.

I have "Reign Of Assassins" and "Womb Ghosts" still to watch, but I don't know if they are from this year.

WOMB GHOSTS is hella scary, dont watch it at night! LOL.. the fucking little girl is scary as hell and the story line was written really well.  A great AH HA moment in the end, also creepy as hell in the end too.
