That's peak season bro, not easy to find antything in Tsimshatsui for less than USD100. For USD200 yes. Suggest you try this website http://www.agoda.com/asia/hong_k ... 7qICFdRA6wodTDH8ig.

Hard to pin down a specific rate now as these fluctuate weekly from hotel to hotel.

Does the YMCA allow overnight guests?  I typically like to pick up a filipina in Wanchai for LT while in HK.

why would you go to the YMCA all the way across town, when there are much cheaper options a block or two away....

No you wouldn't want to stay in the hotels that charge less than 300 a night, aka jordan chung king mansion type. There are plenty in the 400-600 range though, but you'd have to go a bit further away from the city center.

If you stay on one of the many hotels on Jordan rd, and get a high enough room (floor level), you can usually pick up someones open wifi.  At least ive been lucky last couple of times.

Isn't trying find a hotel in TST at $100 USD, pretty much asking for the impossible?

Last time I was in HK, did a couple of days in Causeway Bay when I first got here which I was sure was well over $100. Then stayed in Mongkok before heading back home and that I believe was $100 or a bit more.

it is peak because of trade shows. usually april and october are full of trade shows. i try to time my visits to HK when there are no trade shows, or the hotels will be expensive. for a list of trade shows, go to www.hktdc.com

after you've found a string of dates with no trade shows,  you can try looking for hotel rooms at www.asiatravel.com

good luck

i've seen TST hotels for well under $100, but this was for July/August.
I was going to book the Empire hotel eventhough it does not have free wifi. With taxes it would've slightly over $100.
problem is that they jacked up the airplane tickets from $800 to $1100 on the day i was going to book it.
bastards!

Airline prices have definitely gone up as well as hotel prices.  The jump in airfare seems somewhat surprising but probably lots of planes have been parked reducing te number of available seats so price per seat is higher with lower supply. Hotel rooms don't work that way as they can't be parked.  Yet the price of hotel rooms has definitely rebounded from the doldrums. $100 sounds pretty reasonable. Hard to do better than that.
