Zhuhai is no more. RIP!!

Zhuhai ain't gonna come back - not the way it was.
Ahhh yes.... dem were the good old days.
Cheap - and good full service - Saunas, street walkers stalking you everywhere on Lien Fah lu, RMB 130 BBS's.........  Ahhh... the good ole days.

But they're for the most part...... all history now!!

And I THINK the reason is that there is a master plan at work for the WESTERN part of the Pearl River Delta.

I was just in Zhongshan earlier this week and I was amazed at all the road and rail etc construction going on there.

The plan is to connect Zhuhai with Guangzhou with a Light rail system that only takes 42 minutes and with a highway which will connect Zhongshan with GZ and Zhuhai within 25-30 minutes each way - under an hour by car between Zhuhai and GZ.

There is also a bridge going up between Shenzhen and Zhongshan - much more south to the present Humen bridge and which will connect the 2 towns within 35 minutes.

I see that there is a whole lot of KTV's and saunas in Zhongshan - perhaps this is going to be THE place for these activities in the future; with Zhuhai being designated as the scenic family type of place that it really is well suited for - especially next to the bad bad city Macao!

Too much sin concentrated in 2 places too close to each other in the past!

Whaddya guys think?

Also, I'd appreciate MORE reports on Zhongshan and the action there.
Maybe a good prospective destination for our hobby!!

You mean, like CP and CA?

Frankly I dont think there's a master planner guy in charge of such activities and going, hmm... Macau's too close, let's shift the ktvs and saunas and streetwalkers from ZH to here instead... the new highway and rail will make it easy for all the piao kes anyway...

Gotta agree with you on this - there's NOT gonna be somebody/anybody who's gonna decide something like this.

But I do think that the "general sentiment" amongst the Powers that be is probably shifting towards this way of thinking.  After all, Zhuhai prides itself as being a "model Garden City" for China - and what does it say when their "Lotus Flower Street" is instead where the only Li'l blossoms one finds.... are on high heels and full make-up??!!

I also see that the Powers that be do want to develop the western part of the Pearl River Delta - and with this desire, first comes a transport infrastructure (which at present is woefully inadequate), second, a realignment as to which area serves each function/purpose best/makes the best economic sense.

Anyway....

Actually what you had said about the infrastructure bit was what I had outlined in a report in the China section. Zhuhai will remain a tourist city with lots of KTV and saunas but just more high end. Zhuhai is very liberal when compared to Zhongshan City, also known as Si Qi and it's very expensive in SiQi and saunas and KTVs are not situated on the main thoroughfares with big signs like Zhuhai but off little roads and dead end streets. A lot of scholars and senior party members in Beijing originate from Zhongshan and they always keep a watchful eye on the capital of Zhongshan especially being in the birthplace of Dr. Sun Yes Sen. Zhongshan is in fact named after Dr. Sun.

The bigger picture with these infrastructure developments is to populate the far western corners of Guangdong province, Yangjiang and Zhanjiang, Maoming which are rarely visited and constitute a big chunk of the province. I've visited most of the towns West of Zhuhai, traveling all the way to Hainan Island by car to seek out new investment oppotunities. The Central Government also wants this to spread to Guangxi which is a relatively poor province. There is a plan to build a high speed train connecting Zhuhai with Guangxi but this is only a concept at the moment as there is too much happening at the moment with making Zhuhai the hub to the West. The new Coastal Highway is a beautiful new expressway stretching from Zhuhai all the way to Gaungxi but it is way under utilized. You would see that over the next 10 years there would be a lot more emphasis on the far Western part of Guangdong and the linkage of Zhuhai to the rest of Guangdong is just the start of the bigger picture.

Sorry I have to disagree. After the Japanese Orgy in Zhuhai 2003, the place was extremely dead for about 2 years. The Japanese Orgy made world wide news and they made a point to stamp it out by Beijing and the local gov't. Before the orgy happened, Zhuhai was like Shenzhen, a place like the wild west. Both places were economic special zones. I heard many places are controlled by the triads.  It just depends on how much the gov't wants to crack down on vice. I don't think Zhuhai is going to be totally dead for 2 years like after the Japanese Orgy.  The gov't made a pt not to let it happen again. There was a widely publicized trial. There were rumors / haysay some people were executed but there is no proof.

Yes - most of what I wrote as the OP ARE information I had reconfirmed with you, being - as far as I'm concerned - the 141 resident expert on the Western PRD.  I should have attributed this fact on my OP.

On the same token - I am delighted that you've joined in and contributed further your knowledge on this subject, for like you, (exceptin'..... a few years behind!!) I am looking at project and investments in this area.  Seems to me that the time is ripe for some big things to happen here and that it probably is the ideal time/timely to deploy some money here.

The sex discussion part - yes, that is a side consideration and definitely going to be information I'd require to make sure that Jack does not become a dull boy!! All work and no play and all that....!!

Thanks Geo

Sorry - but  me-thinks that you've again got your head up an ass - only this time - its the girls' asses!!

Oooops... sorry - not trying/meaning to be insulting - but just to illustrate the point that you ONLY look at the sex part of situations.

As Geoduck points out and I starting to grasp - its the concept of a master plan (of sorts!) for the Western PRD.  Sex and the related activities is only a tiny portion of the equation and is thus not only being put on the back-burner - but is actually being turfed out as it has become more of an impediment in the general scheme of things than is worth it.

To you it may very well be that sex IS the MOST IMPORTANT consideration - but hey I' suggest that the way things WERE in Zhuhai - rampant sex industry etc - it ain't gonna come back!!

But of course this is IMHO - and you and others here have got your own POV too.... and I'd like to hear what these POV's are!!

Thanks for contributing

Don't hesitate to PM me for more intel. I have plenty of info as am quite friendly with the local business clique and many Party officials whose investment advice have proved sound so far. I would not go into further details here but there are certain townships and industries that would benefit the most over the next 10 years from these infrastructural works.

Regarding the orgy party in Zhuhai, there were no executions and only two members from the establishment were arrested for extended jail time, namely a manager and a MMS (who I was acquainted with). The hotel was punished and not allowed to have a KTV and sauna for 5 years (now they've reopened) but none of the hotel management were arrested even though they allowed a flag of the Rising Sun (WW2) to be erected at the KTV on the night of the so called orgy. It was this stupid flag that caused most of the commotion.

A bit of an update

Was just chatting with my friend who lives in Zhuhai and he told me that it really ain't all THAt bad and that there is still action to be found - albeit more discreet than before.

Some of the Saunas have re-opened, but being very careful and with even worse selection than their already quite bad selection in the past;  even that 2/F li'l sauna at just beyond the opposite end (to the border) of the shopping mall (damn forgot the actual name..again!!) where one can get a nice li'l session for RMB 200 has re-opened.

The Street walkers on Lian Hua Lu though has been replaced by an army of mommas and pimps - but my buddy tells me that he would NEVER follow these guys/gals - never know if they're gonna lead you up some dodgy place etc just to rob you.

Gotta go back and make an on-site inspection tour self soonest!!

Yuan Ming Palace, Hengqin being developed w/Macau, The F1 race track, The hot Springs, Fisher girl, Lover's road and that big 3 storey touristy thing close to it....and so so many other TRUE touristy things.

Hey wait a minute!!! Maybe there ARE other things to do in Zhuhai rather than just mongering......

And thinking about this - all this fits in with the "theme" that Zhuhai is gonna be turned into a TRUE tourist destination i/o the mongering destination that it had inadvertently become in the near past. Dem's history now!! Nice and clean and healthy activities for the whole family (whilst Dad sneaks off to Macau or discretely go into a high class sauna or ??)

It ain't gonna be a TRUE mongering destination in the future me-thinks, rather a 100% True Tourist destination - but since China is very pragmatic and practical - there WILL still be places/facilities offering "the service" but in a much more discreet and sedate form and probably catering more towards High-end activities. "Life.... and sleaze, will find a way"
