An interesting article about fake Trojan condoms that were being sold in Queens, New York City.  Fake Trojan condoms were discovered to be in the market after the real manufacturer received customer complaints about Magnums that were smaller than they should have been, ribbed condoms that had no ribs, and spermicide condoms that contained no spermicide.  

Think about it, one can deliberately purchase the fake Trojan Magnums to impress his date that his dick is larger (or at least thicker) than average.  She will be 'oohing' and 'ahhing' as she saw those Magnum wrappers.

A Queens man was sentenced to 37 months in prison Wednesday for his role in a counterfeiting scheme that included trafficking more than one million fake Trojan condoms.

Jian “Jimmy” Wang, an American citizen who emigrated from China, received the sentence in Brooklyn federal court from Judge Brian Cogan. He is the first of seven defendants to be sentenced.

Six others were charged, and five from the group — which fraudulently operated under the name ZX Trading Corp. in Queens to hide their practices — have pleaded guilty. The remaining defendant is at large in China.

The six-year counterfeiting scheme, which also included luxury handbags, Barbie dolls and comic books, was uncovered after the knockoff condoms were tested and found to be underperforming, according to court papers. Magnum brands were smaller than they should have been, ribbed models had no ribs, and spermicide condoms had no spermicide. The condoms were imported from China, according to court papers.

“This defendant rather callously, in exchange for money, was willing to put a lot of people at high risk,” Judge Cogan said during the sentencing.

Geoffrey Potter, a lawyer for Church & Dwight, which owns Trojan condoms, told the judge before the sentencing that the company began a massive hunt in 2007 for counterfeit condoms and found “hundreds of thousands of counterfeit Trojan brand condoms” in the basement of a dollar-store Wang operated in Hicksville, N.Y.

Investigators later found more than a million counterfeit condoms at a storage space used by Wang.

The search for the counterfeits appeared to come in the wake of consumer complaints about the condoms. Potter said there haven’t been complaints about the condoms for some time, and the company believes all the counterfeits have been removed from the market.

Wang pleaded guilty to his role in the six-year counterfeit trafficking operation back in Nov. 2009, saying he “knew that the counterfeit goods would likely cause confusion and would also deceive buyers and the general public.” He added that he also “sold some counterfeit condoms and was planning to sell other counterfeit condoms.” He sold the condoms to wholesalers and retail customers at his store.

Wang’s attorney, Glenn Obedin, called his client was the “low guy on the totem pole” in the operation and said Wang had been hoping to avoid incarceration. But he “understands this is a serious matter and that is has to be handled seriously,” said Obedin, who sought probation for his client.

The sentencing follows a companion civil case, in which the judge ordered a $6 million judgment against Wang. The same decision awarded more than $90 million to Church & Dwight, which owns Trojan condoms.

A message seeking comment from Church & Dwight went unreturned late Wednesday.
