Work? SZ

A WG sex forum probably isn't rhe best place to ask but, does anybody know of anybody who lives in HK yet commutes to SZ daily? In that TVB is playing some sort of drama ID精英 which shows people crossing the border point constantly. If it is anything like HK airport which takes me 20 seconds (queuing up for ticket inspections in the UK on trains takes longer), then shouldn't be too bad.

Although the traffic is probably more SZ->HK what are the technicalities of working in SZ and commuting from HK daily?, in that tbh the Tai Po location is closer than HK Island.... just spreading out more feelers in terms of employment (Jobs apocalypse in the UK got even worse and it about to get even worse than it is now).

Any body any experience?

Thanks

In terms of time it takes to go through immigration, as long as you have a home visa, I think the borders at both Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau are generally very fast to cross.

In the past, when I'm there on a weekday afternoon, I see scores of young kids who commute to school in HK crossing back into Shenzhen to go back home.

In my experience, HKers who have to work in SZ just live there during the week and come back down for the weekend.  I don't know anyone who bothers to make the trip everyday.

I know a few people working in HK but live in SZ.. All of them HK residents with the China Home Permit card. I guess it makes sense too especially if your salary isn't way up there. Cost of living in SZ is generally cheaper than HK. And if you want to pay cheaper rent in HK, you either live in a very small flat or live miles away, which isn't so different from living (aside from having to get off the bus to cross the border) in China and commuting back and forth. Takes mere seconds anyways and saves you hella lot of money in the long run. Besides, I reckon there's more fun to be had in SZ with all that extra money you'd be saving up!

I would say 80-90% of the daily commuters who cross the border will be going from SZ to HK.  Mainly because there are more jobs in HK that require Mandarin-speaking people than the other way around.  I myself typically will stay in SZ and go over to HK, but not on a daily basis.  And of course since it is cheaper to live in (most parts of) SZ than in HK.

There's no question that there will be many people taking the train from Hung Hom to DG, but my guess is that most will going there as a business trip, not as a daily commute type of thing.

Not sure about that one.. but rule of thumb is you have to have Chinese blood and either your parents or grandparents are of Chinese National. Oddly enough though, I know an Aussie guy in Macau who works at a casino (full on Aussie, no Chinese blood whatsoever) got one cause he made a Chinese name for himself?! Somehow, he tricked the system and now's he's got a Wui Huong Ching.. lol..

I guess wui hurng jing is a lot lot quicker than a foreign passport/VISA situation -
we always seem to just have 1 officer for that queue, and they are usually junior (it seems)
so that it takes ages for each one to be checked! So annoying
