Question: how to cover my pc tracks?

I'm not particularly IT savvy.  Beyond Tools/Delete Browsing History/Delete all is there anything else I should do to hide my participation on the forum?

Using Firefox?
- Go to Tools > Clear Recent History > Tick all the checkboxes and select Clear Now (on newer versions of Firefox, make sureto select the "All" Time Range.

Using Internet Explorer?
- Go to Tools > Internet Options > Delete all your browsing history

Using Google Chrome?
- You should already be using the Incognito feature of Google Chrome (nothing being saved on your PC, clear everything on close)

I suggest that you download and use Google Chrome for its incognito feature (CTRL+SHIFT+N) so you don't have to manually delete everything every time you want to cover your tracks.

(I haven't tried but I believe Firefox also has a "Start Private Browsing" feature in its Tools menu, but I'm not sure how effective that is)

If you're using internet explorer 8, you can "open an InPrivate browsing window." It basically does not record anything you do on that window, from hsitory, to cache, to cookies etc. when you're done, just close the window. ALWAYS remember to close the window, if you leave it open, people can press the back button and see the history.

if using Safari for Mac (not sure about Safari for PC), Click Safari, then click "Private Browsing". it does the same thing above.

Private browsing is the only way to go for me. It is the best way to have no evidence on any computer. If you clear history and cookies on a computer that you share with others, you also erase the other persons past history and cookies. They may get suspusious. So I just use the private browsing less work and is effective. IMHO I think google chrome is the fastest and best browser to use.

If keeping your internet activities is a serious concern for you, perhaps you should consider using a live cd. There are many linux versions available for download. When you start your computer you boot from the live cd in the optical drive and you are no longer using your hard drive at all. There is no record of any internet activity what so ever. When you are finished, simply remove the cd and boot back to windows.

Use Private Browsing, it is the easiest and most convenient way to go.

I always thought that everything was cleared by using all of the above and then some tactics until I installed iobit security 360 professional, it was a free upgrade and that shit pulled out so much stuff that I was SHOCKED and a bit scared that so much stuff had been left behind.  Now, every time I shut down, I use it to clear everything then do a complete junkfile cleanup.  You would be shocked at how much shit is left behind, even some cookies that can't be erased and believe me I've tried.

I 'd also use a bunch of proxies websites and proxies on in my websurfer.  It isn't perfect because with a warrant the IP companies will still produce some kind of a record.

http://www.wikihow.com/Surf-the-Web-Anonymously-with-Proxies

plus

http://anonymouse.org/anonwww.html

It's like this, use the proxie connection  to the proxie website,
throught the proxie website to access sex141.  Two steps.
70% of the information will be inaccessible.

The next is to check for spyware that is recording any information on your computer.

Remember everytime you google something, it can be traced.  Don't use google for anything you don't want the SO,boss, or the Judge to see. Search Engines records are not to hard for a forensic investigator, private or public to find. Be careful.  These posts are for the most part spot on.  sex141 is pretty safe if you use your brain... happy punting, signed from a bro who learned the hard way.

Use only Firefox to browse and in additional to using private browsing, install an add on called Better Privacy.  Just google Better Privacy Firefox and you'll find it.  This allows you to delete LSO cookies which are cookies stored on your Macromedia Flash Player.  They are just as good as regular browsing cookies in storing data.

i find its too much trouble trying to cover your tracks, it could be just easier to have a separate user login for you and secure the settings so no one else can access your profile to use the computer.

this may work on office computers, but will be very hard to explain to your wife or SO. my SO is not technically inclined, but sometimes asks questions like what is private browsing etc... they are naturally suspicious on what we're doing even if they dont show it, as they weren't born yesterday and know that there's good stuff out there for those who can pay for it

Is there a computer setting to change from the 141 pink background to something else?  Thanks in advance!

Another way is to use a live cd, or locked read only usb drive either Linux or Windows XP.  I best to build computer with no hard drive, and use lots of memory.  Most of the time this kind of computer takes 5 minutes to boot up.  However with no hard drive, none of your settings or anything is ever recorded on your computer.   If something happens, turn computer off and everything you were surfing with is gone.
