Hung Hom Building Collapse

Hi all.  First time post and unfortunately under (potentially) very sad circumstances.

Apparently there was a building collapse in Hung Hom, Ma Tau Wai #45, this afternoon.  I understand that one person is already confirmed dead and there are others still trapped/buried.  The reason for my post is that I frequent one of the most amazing girls at #45J, and I wonder if anyone knows more about if this is the building that collapsed?

From what I read, there was construction/renovation on the ground floor, and this was the case for #45J as well, so I am very concerned that some of the 141 girls in there may have been killed or injured.

I don't speak Cantonese, so it's difficult for me to find anything out.  If anyone knows more, I hope they can post here.

For the moment, I will pray that those trapped there will be rescued.  My heart goes out to them.

I do not know the building you are talking about, but there are two photos on this site. Perhaps that will help you identify the building?

http://www.rthk.org.hk/rthk/news/englishnews/20100129/news_20100129_56_644049.htm#

Sigh, every now and then I do walkups and some of these buildings are really really old. Makes you wonder.
Hopefully no one else is dead or trapped/buried still!

twice i am not sure why you minus my acceptance, noting that i need some sensitivity here. my statement was merely to reflect the fact that the OP brought up the news about a building collapse, and yet aside from being concerned for the general well-being of the people that live there in general, the first question raised is about wg in the area.

is not the news of a collapse and the well-fair of the people that live there in general more of a concern? interesting, because that would be the first thing that comes to my mind, rather than thinking about whether a specific wg is ok there. funny, cus i thought i was being sensitive here.

i see i just got minused by another guy....and i stress again, is not that i am not concerned, but i find it funny because i would think of the general safety of the people there, not to immediately think of a wg first. but go ahead, minus me all you want if u think i am that out of line.

There's a short article here too.

It says that one person died, two injured and 4 missing right now.

Some of these old buildings were made with substandard concrete back in the day, and aren't structurally sound.  I hope everyone else there is ok.

And, for the record, If I knew a walkup girl there the first thing that I would be thinking is "is she ok"... so I don't know where the hell poster #2 is coming from.  Well... I guess I've seen it all now

[Edit] did you miss the last sentence of the original posters message?

When anyone hears about a tragedy one of the first things they think about is
if it involves someone they know ?  it’s a natural thought process, no ?

The way you worded your post still sounds to me to be insensitive !

My apologies to 'indefine' if in my rush to post this message I didn't come across as sensitive as I meant to.  I have been seeing Chili for the past 2 years, about 2-3 times a month, so she is a bit more than just a 'WG' to me.  Of course I an concerned about anyone who may have been in that apartment building (or on the street) and perhaps the tone of my email did not express that enough.

I have looked at all the photos available and am 100% sure it is the same building.  I know of 3 WG's that work in that building not to mention the families that also reside on the same floors.

I truly hope they find more people alive in the rubble and that the injured recover quickly.

my point is this...if say fuji bldg fell down, where 95% of the occupants are wg, then yes it would cross my mind to think of wg. but a regular building such as this, i am sorry to say, i would be more concerned with the general public (including any wg that would happen to work there) and the whole shock of such news. in event of such dreadful news, the news is shocking enough in itself.  is it even necessary to bring up wg? i know its the nature of this board, (and here comes my sick humor again) but wow how much we love our wg's that even in light of such news, is first thing we think about?....is an eye opener.

go ahead, i voiced my opinion now minus me again....

I was in the area mongering in nearby To Kwa Wan when it happened.  Unfortunately, i was in a bus and it took an hour to go a few city blocks on Ma Tau Wai Road.  There must have been 5000 people surrounding police limes watching.  Too bad for the injured, stuff like this is seen usually in places like Haiti and not HK.

no apologies. i wish your wg is ok too.

like i said, i have a sick sense of humor, and to me to think of wg amidst this news is absurd. but that is me. you obviously have more reason to be concerned about said wg. to make it clear, my issue is not with you, nor where you are coming from...

even if it was just a friend of a friend that lived in that building my first thoughts would be the well being of that person before anyone else as there is at least some kind of reference/connection.  hell i've never visited any of the girls there but since the OP brought to my attention that there are WG's and that he's geniune about their well being makes me wish that they are ok.  of course i also wish that eveyrone else in that building is fine too, but at least i wouldnt bash him for his concern for someone he likes.

Dude, you've missed the whole point. He is worried because he know's a girl in the building.

When the tsunami hit South Asia I immediatly contacted my brother's domestic helper because I was concerned about her and her family. Would you turn around and ask why I'm concerned about a maid when so many people died.

It's not about being worried about a category of people, it's being worried about the people in our lives.

yes i understand his relation with some of the wg in that building now, after he explained it in his subsequent post. but in his first post that did not come across.

put it this way, if i knew he had relation with some wg in the bldg, my response would not have been such. i found it absurd, before knowing his relation, that he merely asked abt 141 girls there, as if it was a shot in the dark, when the bigger issue is about people dying and a building collapsing.

this is getting tired....put this to rest....delete my posts if u want, minus me if u want,

.....just talk about the building collapse

sry but i saw indefine's point and it make some sense. when i read the first post. my thought was exactly the same as indefine. "wow this guy is only worrying about his own wg while there are dozens of families trapped or killed in this tragedy"

How about we all step back a bit and calm down.

I believe that both indefine and everybody else have already expressed what needs to be said and that there HAS been quite a bit of misunderstanding by just about everybody here.

I personally am quite sad for the people affected and that in this day and age - in Hong Kong of all places - that this could happen.  We shake our head and either smirk or get angry when it happens in China, when buildings sinks in Shanghai, when Tofu school houses collapse, - but this should NOT have happened here in Hong Kong.

And I'd sugest that we all should just concentrate on this tragedy itself i/o getting into another silly spat here - just like I believe Indefine is trying to say.

OK guys?

My first reaction to the OP's post was that he was concerned for someone he knew.  On re-reading the original post and the description of the WG as "one of the most amazing girls" I suppose Indefine could have misread that comment, making the original post sound more like the OP was concerned with the losing a quality fuck rather than a person he knew who just happened to be a WG.

Indefine's subsequent posts about worrying about the general population first, as if WGs are of secondary concern, didn't help rectify the situation.

If a natural catastrophe happens one's first reaction is to inquire about those he knows regardless of the nature of the relationship, it's only natural.

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.
