Where in HK can I buy this?

In that my dad seems to spend an awful lot of time playing out of books, he doesn't do computers and therefore I can't just fob him off with a cheapo bit of software,

So where in HK can I get something like this?

http://www.yutopian.com/chinesechess/eboards/sunzi.html

Thanks

there are a couple of places in SZ that sell all kinds of chess stuff, both Western style and Chinese style.  Since I myself am heavy into chess (Western style), let me check with my SZ friends and see where it can be bought. I'll post back in a couple of days.

chesshouse.com and classicchessandgames.com in the US seems to sell electronic Xiangqi stuff.

There seems a be a bunch of software available for this, why don't you just buy him a netbook and load this game?

I have never seen this game before.  It looks like the chinese version of chess.  However it doesn't look like the western chess pieces I'm accustom to using.  Are the rules and play for this game the same as the western version?  What do they call it in Chinese?

yes, very similar to western chess, but king is restricted to a box and pawns can only take after crossing the middle of the board.

I would say that the only similarity is in trying to checkmate the opposing king. The rules for each piece are different than those in Western chess, with maybe one or two exceptions.

Erm its not just a magentic travel version of chinese chess, its one of those electronic boards where you make a move the computer will make a move, then you make a move etc.

my SZ friend who is a chess instructor says that either Xinhua bookstore or Book City bookstore may have it.  For sure they'll have the non-computer boards, and for sure they'll have software for Xiangqi.  The Xinhua bookstore definitely has Western-style chess computer boards.

So here's an excuse to get over to SZ....

this machine seems quite low-tech and you can play chess using any netbook computer online or whatever.

Why border to buy this?

Man, bro Ken clearly stated in the first post that he's buying this for his pops, who doesn't use a computer.  Please read through a thread, esp such a short one, to make sure you understand what's been discussed before you make a jackass comment like that.

Btw, Ken, did you manage to find what you were looking for?

If you are just looking for the standard game without the computer attactment you can literally buy it any local stationary store.  I just bought one myself for around hk$25.  Maybe if you let me know the area you are staying in I can help direct you.

They do, but I haven't seen one for chinese chess. They only have electronic boards for regular chess:
