The phone got good reviews - http://reviews.cnet.com/smartpho ... 52_7-33665904.html. You can check out the phone within the Mong Kok MTR station as there is a demo stand there.

Had a quick check of the phone at the demo stand area and is quite impressive.

However, I still love my iPhone and will upgrade to the new 3G S when its available in HK in July.

Which iphone do you have? The 1st generation or the 3G version?

I have the 3G version, and it doesn't make sense to have the upgrade to the new version. Not much improvement. I'll just get the new iphone OS 3.0, after the crack comes out.

If you have the 1st generation, then it makes more sense to upgrade.

Hey Bro.

Had the 1st generation iPhone and quickly switched to the iPhone 3G when it was made available in Hong Kong. Didn't lose much value when I sold my 1st generation iPhone to a phone shop in Mong Kok.

Just wanted the 3G S for its new hardware functionality - new camera with video recording capability - and improved performance.

I've cracked my iPhone 3G this morning and works okay including the apps on cydia and other sources

Some review links here.

from youtube
again from youtube
from viddler

I must say, it looks impressive. The phone looks pretty good. But what I am surprised is the touch-screen. From the videos, it looks fast and smooth. Pretty impressive. I haven't checked the technical specs yet, but it does seem like the Andriod OS is pretty fast.

Most certainly, seems the HTC magic can stand on its own alongside the new iphone. And it most definitely will be cheaper.

By the way, I'm a 3G iPhone user . Still love it, but I won't be tricked by Apple to shell out more dough for the new iPhone, no matter how tempted I am.

Had a play with one at a Smartone outlet - yes, that browser is awesome, fastest I've seen.  I'm seriously tempted because of the integration to google's apps.

Never used an iPhone so very keen to hear from one of you die-hard iPhone users if you try it, and find a function you can do on iPhone that you can't (or can't do as well) on Android ...

Actually, I'm too an iPhone 3G user. But had recently switched to the HTC Magic.
I find that the iPhone's touch screen is more comfortable to use when you need to zoom into a specific area. But with the Android system, there are far more useful applications as well as games to download. When surfing the net, it hangs and slows down sooooo much.
Since i've been using the 1st and 2nd gen iPhone, i would definitely go back to iPhone, so so much user friendly. (for me that is)

From what I've seen, nothing really beats the user interface of the iPhones, not to mention the applications.  Everything's just so dummy-proof!  I just hate how everyone and their dogs have one.

What about the Nokia 97?

Nokia N97? In my opinion, the 5-megapixe or 8 megapixel camera phones are useful only for taking pictures, especially sneak pictures .

As far as features are concerned, their functionality loses out to phones such as HTC magic, and iPhone.  Their user interface is boring. Once you've tried a touch-screen phone, you won't go back tothe normal phone.

And on the picture quality, you'll be better off with a digicam.  And, the value of such camera phones seem to drop very fast.

Phones such as iPhone and HTC Magic probably have better resale value, so you can get some spare cash to cover when you switch to a new phone.

The N97 is the phone with the qwerty keyboard, and dosen't have a 8mp camera.  i think you have it confused with another phone.

From experiences in switching phones. I would strongly advise you bros to stay with the iPhone if you are currently using it. As the market is now starting to flood us with all gadgets there is. Therefore, one can only experience its disadvantages and then switch back.

Now, just trade it in..... for iPhone 3GS with 32GB. You'll never get disappointed

Currently owning the E71, but thinking of changing to E72

Does anyone have experience with all of the following phones though?

- HTC
- iPhone 3GS
- Nokia E-series
- Blackberry

Am curious to know which one is better as the business phone.

I have a iPhone 3G, plan to upgrade to 3GS when the official HK release is available, and a blackberry for work. Basically, I'm carrying two phones during the week. At the weekends, I use the iPhone as the weekend phone which can also pick up my work emails.

The iPhone is an all rounder phone for entertainment and business. We had a look at the Blackberry Storm as a rival to the iPhone but it doesn't match up to the iPhone in terms of functionality. Doesn't even have wireless capabilities.

For Nokia and HTC, I cannot comment as I have never used these brands before.

Just my preference, I only use the Blackberry for company emails and nothing else. My iPhone is used for a number of things, surfing this site, etc.

With the new Blackberry Storm, my company was offered favourable terms by a local mobile phone provider but we turned it down as the phone was a little clunky and didn't match up to the iPhone.

You can go to any of Three outlet to test the phones to see which suits you.

I had an e61 - loved it.

Great for e-mail, but a bit dated now, no touch screen.  Oustanding battery life.

Guess the more recent e-series are still a good alternative to Blackberry, but Blackberry seems to win in the corporate stakes since the e-mail is instant delivery.

Oops, yeah its 5 mega-pixel not 8. But my post #9 was more about camera phones in general.

There was a rash of camera phones flooding the market at one time.  Before using iPhone 3G, I was using Nokia phones mostly.  But N97 took such a long time to officially come out. By then, I had bought the iPhone and am too used to it now with its smooth touch-screen and functionality with or without jailbreaking.

nycazn > thanks, i'll look into it.
There are a few interesting phones coming out, so maybe i should just wait a bit and play around with the phones in the stores.

Its interesting to see samsung coming out with integrated 12mp camera though!

tried the HTC Magic today in a Smartone shop.
It was not very convincing to me. Sluggish processing times / change of screens was slow and also the touch screen was not as sensetive as expected. Maybe that unit was already worn from all the people come and go and the shop and try...
