is the iphone 3g available for purchase in hk without contract?

just a question...

where can i buy an unlocked 3G iphone in hong kong WITHOUT the contract? do the local cell phone stores have them in stock (NOT 3 hutchison telecom)?

you cannot find in ordinary shop like fortress or braodway; you can go to the phone centre in mongkok argyle street, can buy any unlock phone there

You can go the Apple store anywhere in Hong Kong to purchase the iPhone...

i thought there were no apple stores in hk, only Apple Authorized retailers... is there one on Park Lane tst?

which would be cheaper? MK, or Apple store?

also, i'm getting this for a friend in Canada, any problems with mailing it overseas for my friend to use?

apple shop cannot sell unlock iphone, it's against the exclusive contract with 3, same in us and europe.

no problem with sending oversea with regular post (dhl doesn't send it cos cannot remove the batterie)
maybe a tax fee in canada

One of my colleagues bought the iPhone from one of the authorised Apple dealers and paid HK$6,200 for a 16GB model and wasn't binded to any contract. All iPhones sold in Hong Kong are unlocked and can be used by any sim card.

i got a hookup, got me once in a lifetime deal..hehe a brand new iphone 3g 8gb for $250 US ;), no contract...  totally LOVED, now I need to sell my 3 months old Nokia N95 8gb.. any takers..hehe

Regarding unlocked iphones, I've got colleagues who got their friends to purchase the unlocked iphone in US (before the iphone launch in singapore).  

Its actually probably the best country to buy iphone. So if you have friends or family in US, ask them to check out the prices. You can also save on delivery if you get them to bring to you from US.

You can buy iphone directly from the apple shop or any authorised reseller WITHOUT any contrac but comes with guarantee or you can buy imported unlock phones from phone shops  anywhre in hongkong all sell them about $200/300 cheaper then apple shop but dont know if u get guarantee.

If you get unlock phones from the US or the UK surely you dont have a warranty. Apple are too smart once u unlock them no warranty so you have to pay if anything goes wrong.

Yep.  The iPhone was launched last year in OZ.  Not sure what jiebon is on about.  They are readily available at most outlets.  Not cheap though!
