Visa for China

hi guys!
since i'm going to stay in HK from the 17th December (08) to the 11th of January (09) I'd like to visit a bit of China and I was thinking of Lijiang since I love those kind of traditional places.
I'm not looking for wg there since I'm more interested in their culture (Naxi) but I was wondering if I need some kind of Visa.
I'd like to travel from Shenzhen by plane (i checked some website and it's pretty convenient) to Lijiang but I can do the Visa in SZ or directly in Lijiang?
Besides, I'd like to stay in Lijiang for 3-4days..
Can you help me out?
thx m8s!

Get visa from HK.........

Just bring 2 passport sized photos and drop-in passport and ask what type you want . Your case being 1 entry if doing a tour of diff cities on 1 visit. You need a mutiple if intending on doing it seperatly ...

Pick up visa and pay.....no questions asked.

Prefered the above from CTSHK......

3M single = 1 visit entry to China within 3m limit etc.....Multi = As many times entry within 3m

No direct flight from HK to Liajiang.......

HK to Kunming....then internal flight from Kunming to Liajiang or take the forever bus.....

HK to Kunming:

Kunming to Liajiang:

and what about the terrorist attack that took place in Kunming some months ago? it's the situation stable now?
btw the fly is cheaper from SZ to Lijiang than HK-Kunming-Lijiang, so i'd choose the sz-lijiang
and about the 3m thing. 3M means 3months,right?
thx again!

Dont forget...I think you said you will be staying in MK.......

So MTR.. MK to Lo Hua = 47min or from MK east saving 10min on train time but probably take that getting there......

Arrival to Lo hua.....HK immigration (easy if HKID) self automated & very efficient.....if not passport control and always a queue. Took my GF 35min last time (11am...ish)

Then China immigration....No China ID so its passport control and need to fill boarding card. Much better now and waiting time is average about 15min. I have waited around 40min before and as chinese call it `sei ben`...or snake cake (long snake style parallel queues). Tip  When in China immigration......Do not queue behind dark skin race and especially with children. Really no offence to anyone but it does take forever as experienced in the past....follow the singles and preferably europeans. Goes much faster........

Have fun!

i don't mean to rain on the parade, but it is still nearly impossible to get a visa because of the olympics, might be better in late september as the Guangzhou fair approaches.  and forget it if you do not have a HK ID, non HK residents must apply in their home country and still need to show hotel confirmation and plane tickets with the visa application

I knew that mutiple entry visas were no longer issued because of olympics. Those who still had remaining months till visa expired were not affected.....

As for no HKID and have to apply in home country is completly new to me......maybe its types of passports....

Hopefully all should be normal in Sept with the olympics over.....

but why it's nearly impossible? I mean I understand that it's because of the olympics but I will be in China on December so why bother?

really? That sounds awful cause asking a Visa here in Italy is something like 90€, which is too expensive...

I recently visited a travel agency in Central for a ticket to Taiwan. Just for the hell of it I asked about visas to China. I expected the agent to repeat what I had read in the papers here that China now requires non-residents to apply for visas from their home countries (i.e., if you're Italian, they want you to get your visa from a Chinese consulate in Italy). However, the travel agent told me that it was still possible to get a visa here in HK! How about that?! She quoted me a price of HK$ 1600 for a 3 mth visa good for two entries - that's 140€, but then US citizens are always charged more than Europeans. Still, expect to pay a least 90€ here in HK, so the prudent thing to do would be to get your visa in Italy.

So i think it's possible to do the visa in HK through that service ( http://www.jta.biz/chinavisa/china_visa.htm ) the only thing is that i have to ask if they want the flight ticket from hk to kunming or also the flight ticket from kunming to lijiang..

Actually it was ironic for me, I have HK perm resident card but hotel concierge told me it was faster to obtain a China Visa with my US passport.

I entered HK with my HK ID card but i had to go to macau (hehehe too bad no mongering) and come back in with my US passport.

Easiest way is just talk to hotel concierge and pay 180$USD ish for them to run around for you.
