you mean real? HK has every famous brand you can think of but whether or not you can save money buying in HK depends on where you are from. Do your homework based on how much things cost before you leave home and ask your hotel concierge where to buy LEGIT Genuine version of what you want (or ask here... we can probably help).

you mean fake? Go to the Mong Kok or Temple St market. Hotel staff will show you on a map or to get there. Plenty of copies, clothes, watches, hand bags, glasses etc. You may be invited to go "upstairs" to see the really good copies. If you feel comfortable go for it, I have done it many times, no problem. Negotiate!!!

if you have time, go to Shen Zhen just across the boarder, you may need a VISA depending on where you are from. Even better prices on fakes.

Other options include Stanley Market & Ladder streets Hong Kong side.

Many people say HK has declined as a great shopping destination but I don't agree... if you know where to go it's fine... you just need to be sure you buy at the right place. and do your home work. Lots of threads re where to buy watches etc if you do a search.

Since you joined a HK forum 3 years ago, I'm assuming you have been to HK? in which case I'm surprised you don't know where the markets are???

The Tung Chung outlets used to be a great deal but really no more.

When the Tung Chung mall was built, the retailers were dying for biz as there wasn't that much foot traffic out there. Tung Chung is not really close enough for most ppl to take a trip out there. Many of the original retailers left the mall as it wasn't generating enough income to pay rent.

One day the developers came out with a great idea to turn the Tung Chung mall into an retail outlet mall. It was a great success. In the past (as recently as year and half ago) I was able to find great deals on clothes, luggage, athletic gear that were only 1 season old and my size too. I could find savings of 50% and more.

Then someone in the mall management got the great idea to provide a direct bus from Shenzhen to the Tung Chung mall for the mainland tourists. Now the mall is flooded with mainland daytrippers and because there are so many tourists, the retailers don't have to give deep discounts any more. These days discounts are like 10% or less which is nothing for HKers who have to justify getting out there. But to the mainland tourists, they would be willing to pay full retail as it the goods are still less expensive than inside China.

We would have to wait for the next recession before there would be any deep discounts once again at Tung Chung mall.

Good God, the last time I was at Tung Chung mall, I couldn't believe the amount of mainlanders there, elbowing their way around.
Even if things were a good deal, I'm not sure I want to deal with that again.
