Privacy Issues

i usually have internet access at the hotel i'm staying at as well as local prepaid data cards
my question is: does anyone know if the hotel actually logs your internet activities?
i'm rather paranoid and i remote into my private server for not only work purposes but also browsing on the 141 site
being a regular, i don't want the hotel management to be snooping around my online activities
thanx in advance

Of course it's possible to actually log incoming and outgoing traffic and trace it back to a specific account.  But unless you know someone who works at that specific hotel you won't know whether they actually do it or not.

It's not so much whether it can be done or not (it definitely can), it's about whether the hotel cares to do it or not.

For a hotel to track internet usage there would need to be a reason.   Otherwise think of all the hours wasted.  And for what.

Thats not usual hotel business to pay employees to snoop into customers internet usage.  What would they even do with the info once they had it?

so lets say a unethical hotel employee does snoop and a hotel employee, that you do not know and that does not know you, sees you are in 141.....so what. Most likely he will be banging 141 girls later in the day too.

its not farfetched for a hotel (or any other business for that matter) to have a log of internet usage, pages visited etc, although it may be more of a passive log until they have to go back and look for something

Most hotels contract out their internet access.
I would guess that any logging is also 3rd party managed.

If you are that concerned, then you use your own laptop and your own VPN.  Problem solved.

Completely agreed.  Most hotels outsource their broadband service.  When you have a problem, they forward your call to an out call service.  Those guys definitely are tracking things - not to snoop on you, but to help you with your service if you ever complain.  But I would not worry about this unless you are famous.  I think hotels know that 90% of their traffic is porn or porn related!
