Big quake in Japan

Holy shit, I hope no bros are visiting the Japan area hit by the quake and tsunamis.  My prayers go out to those affected.  Fuck...I was planning on making a visit to an AAMP this weekend, but now I'm thinking I'll use that $ to make a donation for relief efforts.  I know this forum isn't to preach, but I encourage you bros to consider doing the same.

The images coming out from Japan right now are shocking.

Everybody keep the people in Japan in your prayers... this earthquake is a really big one.  They said the biggest in Japan since records began

With tsunami warnings for waves as high as 10 meters all around the Pacific basin.

Wonder if it is even going to affect Hong Kong?

For sure it killed the stock markets already.

Not Armageddon I hope

They say it shouldn't really affect us... but the HKO still hasn't updated the quake magnitude from 8.4 to 8.8

News from Taiwan says that they weren't really affected so far, touch wood, to HK should be fine too

My heart goes out to everyone in Japan though

Ditto about  sympathies for all those affected in Japan - and am crossing my fingers that this Once-a-lifetime tragic natural phenomenom is NOT going to affect more.

We've all seen how destructive tsunamis are - can you imagine if tsunamis do hit other parts in the Pacific basin?

And this "ring of fire" thing with Hawaii getting volcanic action, now Japan rocked by such a large quake - what if other areas geologicaly connected also get large earthquakes?  California? Chile? Philippines?  Wherever else?

Time to get some religion back!

I really hope this is not the start of the apocalypse. A friend just reported straight from Japan, God Bless... in his words, most of the modern buildings especially those in Tokyo are mostly fine. Not much damages.

My sympathy and prayers to our Japanese brothers.  Hope the destruction doesn't claim more casualties.

Saw on tv the heavy traffic gridlock at past 1:00 am in Tokyo which is unusual, because the government does not allow them to use the elevated highway for fear that if there's an aftershock, more serious problem might occur.

Hope Japan recovers fast from this. One thing worth noticing is that very few buildings were affected by the earthquake itself, but rather by the tsunami. Seems that the Japanese investment in quake-proofing their buildings over the years is working out well. I'd imagine if the same quake had happened to say Shanghai or Hong Kong (or anywhere else in the world for that matter), the damage and death toll will be several magnitudes higher.

Spare some thoughts for the people in Japan and do contribute to any charitable cause to help them. Also, let's not forget that the people from Haiti and Sichuan are also recovering from their own disasters in recent years.

Man your soo right, if this happened in Shanghai, the damage would be 100x worse.  I live up on the 30th floor of a 3 year old building, and im 99 percent sure that it would of collapsed!!! lol   This building is built to such crap standards and even worse this flat goes for about 800,000 usd on the market.  Just the other day I saw some construction workers ( probably govt contracted ) fill a huge hole ( bout 25-30 feet diameter ) in the ground that they dug up to rework some sewer lines with bags of crap/trash 3/4 full and then top it off with soil, finished with a heavy layer of tar, were not talking about some random small street where hardly any cars pass, its a pretty busy intersection! The Japanese tend to do things right and not round corners, quite opposite of the Chinese.

We pray for you Japan.

They have had many earthquakes in the past, which is probably why they have stricter building codes.

On a side note, can't believe how many people's statuses on facebook say this is karma for what happened at Pearl Harbor. Some of the dumbest people....

Probably Americans making the dumbass comments.  Im from the states and the ignorance level of a large portion of Americans really embarrasses me.  Were talking about a first world country where 1/5th of its citizens can't locate America on a world map.

Are you serious!?  You've got me reconsidering any visit to Shanghai if the building standards are so poor over there!

But in all seriousness, the magnitude of the devastation is just plain crazy.  Clear across the Pacific Ocean, even California got hit by those tsunami waves.  Santa Cruz harbor and Crescent City were hit surprisingly hard, but we're quite fortunate it's not even close to the degree Japan was hit.  Now they're talking about nuclear meltdowns over there!  I'm praying for those guys...
