Bloody doormen!

I have come across this problem on several occasions and I'm just wondering how wide-spread it is.

What I'm talking about is doormen charging a 'fee' when girls leave the hotel. They can generally tell when a girl is going to be walking out with a purse full of cash and take advantage of it.

I have read about it on another forum in Angeles City in the Philippines, but none of the girls I spoke to there could (or would) confirm it happens.  I can kinda understand it there, because the area is just a big red light district and every tourist is there for sex, so they are maybe less concerned with their hotel's reputation.

On my recent trip to Jakarta I was staying in a 5 star hotel which was not close to any of the hot spots and certainly could not be associated with mongering in any way. I took a girl for the night and cut her loose in the morning; when I saw her again a couple of nights later, she told me the doorman had demanded money - I had paid her 500000IDR (~$425HK) and the doorman had taken 100000IDR (~$85HK)! Sure, not a huge amount of cash but if I want to tip the doorman I will get him to come to my room and suck my dick for it! I raised it with reception and got a brush off - "I don't think that would have happened..", "We'll look into it for you..." No real answer at all...

As I said, in AC they know that it's all about sex and they can shake down any girl leaving the place, but I was surprised that a 5-star hotel would allow this shit.

So, I guess I'm posting this for two reasons:

1. to ask if anyone has experienced this? and,
2. to let all the bro's know so they can react accordingly (I have started walking my girls out of the premises just to make sure they don't get ripped off).

i never meet this before in China, maybe just because i'm usually stay in hotel agent suggested.

for other locations, i heard this but remember it's around 10% for 3 star hotels. never see 20% as you met.

and personally, never heard this happened in 5 star hotels.

just joking - maybe that hotel thought they does same business and do it as re-selling.

None of such things have happened to me in China, but in Bangkok, Thailand and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, YES! In Bangkok, the receptionist or the doorman will charge about 600Baht now and in HCMC, they will ask you to 'open' another room.

you should've asked your gal to identify which bloodsucking doormen and confront him. Give him a good fuck in front of everybody and make a scene. Then complain to the management.
His low and filthy to bribe this kind of money from a hardworking gal.
If if he want quick money, he shld go get his ass fucked by others.

This happens very often in Jakarta unless you walk the girl out, 5 star hotel or not.

I would say its not worth confronting the doorman after the fact. Nothing's going to happen, as you found out, and it would make things difficult for the girl when she is next brought to that hotel.

Actually I cant think of any 5 star hotel in Jakarta not associated with mongering in any way

In Bangkok, they usually charge only if it's not a guest friendly hotel. Hotels like themajestic suite doesn't charge anything when u bring in a girl.

Not a joiner fee

Just to clarify, I'm not talking about a joiner fee that they charge me (the guest) to bring a girl into my room. This is a transaction between the doorman and the girl, which happens without the guest's knowledge. It is not (as far as I know) hotel policy or an official charge - just the fat, lazy doormen making some extra $$$'s on the side.

Thanks for the responses guys - seems like it is quite rife in SEA. Ah well, just be aware where your 'tip' money is going

But, as the receptions reaciton clearly suggests, the doormen does not have any right to ask you for money. If this happened to me, I would drag the doorman from the collar to the reception and ask for the hotel terms and conditions. If there is no obligation to pay, I would   the doorman and leave. To ask for money like this is just insulting to the customers. Asia and it's problems...

Believe me, that was my first reaction, but as has been mentioned it is probably not worth the effort. Even if the hotel sacked the doorman on the spot, it wouldn't change the practice - they would probably just re-emply the guy after I checked out. And I have no doubt it would just cause more problems for the girls down the track.

The only way i can see around it is for Bro's to walk their girls off the premises.. It's shit, but that's just the way it is.

Yep, 'escort' her out.  Not only will you keep her from being extorted by the doorman, but you'll also prevent her being held up by the front desk while they call you to make sure you're still in one piece (not common in the PI but common in VN, Singapore and elsewhere).

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.

For this to happen you've got to start mongering bro.

It seems unlikely to me, especially a 5-star hotel. The hotel has so much reputation to loose, that it can't be a policy.
And the guy at the door would loose his job if he was asking this from a girl that is your girlfriend instead of a WG (how can he be sure).

I think the girl was trying to convince you to give her more money. They are really ready for any lie to get more cash sometimes.

Never seen or heard of it in HK, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were fairly widespread in some other SE asian places.

I agree with that. If the girl spent the night with you & walked out in the morning when there are a lot of people in the lobby of 5 star hotel, the doormen wouldn't dare to ask any money from the girl in front of public.

Its not just the doormen, the security is in it as well and they can legitimately pull the girls aside for "questioning"... I know it happens at the 5-star Sxxxxxx-xx and Mxxxx hotels. So most if not all girls just pay up to avoid the fuss.

Yep.  I used to get calls from downstairs hotel staff.  They'd be holding the girl until they heard that I wasn't drugged and robbed, then they'd let her go (shit, she didn'tlook THAT skanky did she?! ).  So rather than embarrass everyone involved I just learned to escort the girl downstairs and out.  Kinda inconvenient in the middle of the night or early morning, but that's the way it is.

You've got to remember that the girls do not have a leg to stand on. The hotel management won't help them or even let them back in to see the guest and they certainly can't go to the police, so they are an east target. Expecially when you consider that they are on shaky ground in a muslim country like Indonesia. Indeed, even if they could tell them, a lot of mongers would not want to make a scene or draw attention to their activities. Certainly in Jakarta most hotels have security posts at the front doors, so it would not look out of place for the doorman to take a girl off to the side for a quiet "chat".

As for the girl just wanting more cash, maybe, but I think not. When she told me, she knew she was not getting a repeat session and we were just chatting in the bar... If this was the only time I had heard of it I might be more sceptical, but based on what I had already heard, I am inclined to believe her.
