Way Way back in the 1968, when I was still a very young teenager, may be 24 years old or, A class mate of my invited to joint him to go to Japan as well as         Taiwan. Japan trip was nothing much, the Taiwaan trip left me a very long  deep impression.

Then Taiwan was still a very undeveloped country. Basically all farmers, Girl who were more rebellous will come to cities to seek for fortune and many of them end up in the Barber shops. The Barber shops might look very innocent, but actually they were the contact point, or introduction baits with the girl who will do your 'hair cut'. The girls really had the skill of doing your hair cut, but with some interreactive skills, itl led to your own arrangement you could have made. Those girls could be a one night stand, your weekly girlfriend, or even a long time your girlfriend in Taiwan when you are there. Many of them just seek for fun as we then were     known as 'Oversea Chinese' presumely having more money and  able to spend on them and they do not mind to be your companion during your stay in Taiwan.
Many of them act as your 'mistress ' during your full stay there. A very interesting social behaviour then. They normally would not even asked for extras.

With the growth of IT, the Copmputer manufacturing era, all those 'farm girl found jobs in the factory, and because of their increased in earning power, they       were more independent and more chosey to go along this line of trade or profession.

Actually, I find such accounts very interesting. Taiwan and Japan used to be a playground for American sailors. Taiwanese girls were very good looking too in their cheongsams.

Encouraged by some of you I decided to continue my stories.

Those days, everyone who visited Taiwan would go and look for their 'Barber Shop' ladies. On just one main street, you can find them at every corner like the 711 shops    now a day. Usaually they are fairly smallish shops  with about 5 to 6 ladies cutters. Are they real hair dressers?? Normally one went there for a complete service with hair   trimming, it is quite normal for Taiwanes men to have their hair cut and hair wash every week. Just a    excuse to meet up with their ladies. So you can imagine it was not a proper hair cut, but just hair trimming. Up   till today, Barber shops with massage palour still very much part of a Taiwanes man daily life. Now existing except with very different scale. It is a envolvement from Barber girls to MP.

I remembered. Always conversatin and interaction were the only communication. If you do not speak their  dialact, 'mother tongue,'  which is Hokkien then you are really at a disadvantage. There was  no way that the girls would be able to speak Englisk. Hokkien is my mother tougue so there was no problem for me.

Conversation was alway the focus how the lady was able to get a date from you. It was quite normal to make arrangement to go for a simple movie show or dinner, where both parties would size up each personal worth or  whether or not they were prepare to go along with you, during the whole period of your stay in Taiwan. They acted as your companion, your girl friend, or even your mistress for that period of time with some even remain as a close companion every trip you were there. Even commicating frequency with you either away or during your visit of stay.

My exprience. Most of the case of Barber ladies are by introduction if you want to have a closer relationship. We were brought to the barber shop. A very innocent set up Actually it is a bait for things to come. I was  getting a bit suspicous the way the questions were engineering. After the haircut, with some close bodily massage, we         
invited the girls for dinner which they readily accepted. The dinner set up was fun, they reacte as  if  they are more like hostess rather than guests invited by us. The girls  are quite pretty, young in the early 20, I am quite sure they are from the farms coming to Taipet(city) to seek for a better life or to look or fish for a  provider. The old      classic thinking was that Overses Chinese are alway very loaded with money which might not be the case. The two girls that were with us really enjoyed themselves with food and drinks. I was surprised that  they drunk like fishes out of water. With the intoxication, both of them became very inimate and at times a little crazy. I was not acustomed to that, i felt very strange. My friend a taiwanese, told me that was quite normal for  such arrangement. Dont forget those were the time only lland line no mobiles, no internet, life was quite  simple then The girls were then not so  demanding. They just wanted to have a good time. I was told that no fees was even discussed, you gave them what you feel they deserved and every business gentleman had their   own black book of contract, which they rated accordingly for which customer they are entertaining. I was very much taken in. How  a very innocent hair cut and hair wash and blow turn out.

After dinner we went a night club and continue the very interactive session. Very innocently I said that I am tired and I wanted to retire to bed. The host was very kind send me back to the hotel.  The girls went off their own way. As I was about to retire, there was a knock on my door. I was surprise to see the lady who  attended to my  haircut as well as  having gone to dinner and nightclub with us. To let or not to let her in. I was then stay in Lai Lai Hotel near Taipei Central Station. The newest and best hotel then. I was caught in a very  difficult situation. She told me that having quite a nice hotel was to be shared and she would like to stay with  me! My heart went cold, I just let her in. One thing led to another and we actually settled in bed together. She having no pyjamas or night clothes went naked to bed and the rest of it I leave it to your imagination. I just  could not resist the temptation. We spend the night together, she got up early and went off quietly. There was mention of money at all.

That evening after all my business engagement, I receive a massage from her to return her call. I returned her calll, we went out togther and we behave like we were young lovers. She spend the rest of my stauy together with me. We did communicate a while after that we lost each other.

What I am Itrying to bring out is that now a day our economy has become so money orientation, Friendship of  those simple type iare lost. Auy one had such exprience would like to hear from you.
