CNN's Top 40 Hong Kong Food

Just caught this article in the morning, thought I'd share with others who can't enough of Hong Kong's food, especially those like myself over here in Canada that don't get authentic stuff.

I've personally never had the Shrimp Sashimi before, but it does look good. Any local HKers frequent any of the places they mention?

I honestly think next to punting, I'm most excited about getting to sample the food in my upcoming trip.  I went to Shanghai last year (first time to Asia period) and man it was great getting some authentic food, not the crap they pass as Chinese food here in the states.

Thanks for the link though.. this will give me a good starting point of places to check out during my stay.

the ordering of the foods seems quite randomish, unless it is in alphabetic order (which I don't think it is).   Missing a bunch of things - including the fashionable pig's neck.

Last time i was in HK i was looking all over for a place that served the dish they had in #10! I wish i'd seen this article earlier.

Love tofu so will have to try the stinky tofu.  Says that you will remember the smell long thereafter.  Dont like that though.  Must be very healthy.

in HK there is a place that serves their milk tea in a plastic cup with a bowl of ice on the outside...its a fast food place all over hong kong chain type (the name escapes me) but their roast pork is the BOMB...i have to eat there everytime i'm back in HK

i agree with jesun this list is missing a lot of other good food in HK like cheese baked lobster and lai liu hai

a good list of some of my favorite food. i would like to try the hong kong style french toast (looks fatty but mouth watering), the egg sandwich (seems to be a hk favorite for lunch), stinky tofu (i love tofu), boh loh yaau (i've had boh loh baau but never the butter version), wife cake (wonder how much different it is here compare to hk), Cantonese preserved sausage (nothing like it with a bowl of rice), egg tart (hot and fresh is the best), Roast pigeon (with lots of fresh squeeze lemon over it, yum!), Cha siu baau (one of my dim sum favorites), hmmm and fish balls. going to save this list as a side thing to do when im not busy fucking.

I tried to go around and find some in the city, it wasn't that easy. Most of them did not look very good. Or it looked a little dry. Surely not as good as in the #10 picture. I have actually had the stuff that looks as good in the pic before. It's good stuff.

Hong Kong Roast Goose is on the top of my list. We don't get those here in Canada. I have to fly back to Hong Kong to taste it.

thanks for the article. will definitely try some of them although some are pretty far in Tseun Wan.
as for egg tart, i would go to macau for that. they are amazing there.

Really? I'm from San Francisco, and the Cantonese cuisine there is pretty darn good. I mean the chefs at the higher end Cantonese restaurants in the Bay Area have transplanted from HK, so the food is pretty similar....no? The only exceptional thing that I've tasted in HK(since moving from SF) are those delicious pork buns from Fu Sing restaurant.

SF chinese food is pretty darn good and is quite up there in terms of places with good chinese food.  the only thing that i still have not found in SF is fried squid legs (ja yu yiu so).  Vancouver is also pretty darn close in terms of good chinese restaurants

Was in Macau and thought the food in hk was much better.  Went to mostly the buffet style and really did not compare.  Anyone else notice this difference

Dan Taats are delicious but the Macau egg tarts are sublime but can give you a heart attack because they use a lot of lard in Macau. Best egg tarts are from Margarets, near the Lisboa Hotel, much better than Lord Stow's which claim to be the creator of the Portuguese egg tart.

most of the food is nothing you can't get if you're located in a community with a large asian population.  coastal cities in the us, such as san francisco, los angeles, new york.  the harder thing to find is the stinky tofu, but if you know where to look, you can find that as well.  i do miss the food in hong kong though.  can't wait to go back again

I was watching Anthony Bourdain No Reservation and he was in HK and got roasted suckling pig.  I've never had it but it looked yummy.  Anyone know of a good place to find some of that while I'm there?  I'll be staying in the Central area.

In Central, go to Yung Kee Restaurant (http://www.yungkee.com.hk/), located on Wellington Street, just next to Lan Kwai Fong. They are famous for the roasted duck but has an excellent roasted suckling pig as well. Gotta try both.
