I can't help you here, but I do want to say that this probably should be in the Chat section.  Try using the search function, I'm sure this topic or something similar has been discussed before.  Good luck!

Welcome to the forum bro. Please try a forum search for sim and you will get your answer.

For internet access, you either access free wifi spots around town (e.g. government facilities, macdonalds, etc.) alternatively go to establishments that have internet access facilities (e.g. Pacific Coffee, etc.).

any prepaid SIM will do. any 7-11 will have them, if you dont have the time to look for them. usually HKD100 for SIM and some load. i have rarely been able to use up HKD100 on 1 visit, the load is good for 6 months

Theres a 7-11 in the airport i usu go to, but i never get those sim cards data plan to work with my iphone.  I always see cell phone shops around (esp in mongkok) but never tried going there.  Would be great to have access to 141 on my iphone tho, might be worth it for you to check out.

as asia-play mentioned, there are lots of establishments around that offer free wifi, use that instead with your iphone or any other wifi enabled phone.

when i am in HK, i set my blackberry to connect via wifi, and the coverage is usually good enough that wifi is available wherever i am and i get my emails without incurring roaming charges.

Free wifi hot spots in government buildings block 141 for obvious reasons they block a hell of a lot of stuff tbh.

The OP is probably better off visiting a 7-11 and buying a PCCW 30 day internet access code,or just connect to the internet nearby a phone booth run by PCCW and you can buy 7 days usage on their WIFI network its pretty cheap.

The more expensive option is to hire one of those Vodaphone internet dongles for a week that lets you use 3G rather than WIFI in areas that don't have it, but considering my PDA could connect to WIFI everywhere except between towns and the HK small villages its not that useful.

the 7-11 at the airport has different SIM cards - you should be able to get something to your liking.

yes, if there's free wi-fi offered there. if I remember correctly, some Starbucks and McDonalds branches do offer free wi-fi. some shopping malls like Harbor City in TST offer free wi-fi also. however, keep in mind that some wi-fi hotspots only offer wi-fi for customers/subscribers of certain telecom companies and are password protected. in other words, u shouldn't have any trouble finding free wii-fi around the city, but don't expect to find it everywhere u go.

if you are looking for something that works in a lap top, and you come to HK regularly, consider buying a 3 USB stick. initial cost around HK$700. Then you get unlimited web browsing and downloads (UNLIMITED & NOT Capped / slowed at a pre determined level) for HK$28 per day. I am not sure if there is an adaptor that makes these compatible with your iPod touch but if possible and you come here often HK$28 /day is hard to beat.

The wifi stick is good but from experience, anything other than text is really slow but it is better than nothing if you are in an area with no wifi

hong kong has free wifi in most areas under "Y-5zone" your allowed 20mins of free wifi, but i think there is a catch somewhere. but if you want more, they have some data pacakages:

Packages
1. 24-Hour Wi-Fi Pass (Unlimited Data Usage) For $18
2. 5 Days Unlimited Wi-Fi Pass (non-consecutive day) for $39
3.1-Month Wi-Fi Pass (Unlimited Data Usage) for $98

more info: https://www.y5zone.net/en/Service/OTP_Introduce.aspx

a really usefull ipod/phone app

actually, i think it depends on the service provider. The 3 USB I bought is fantastic. I can download video and audio with ease. and fast. I'm sure they're are not universally good but the one I have is excellent and at HK$28/day it has really been convenient.

PCCW has wifi available in most of hong kong areas, I would just sign up with that, it's not really that expensive and much more reliable than the free wifi available in some malls, office buildings and such.
