......nothing compared to HK safety. Even the most familiar areas can be scary at times, that's why I too punt with locals that I know. Usually when I am in China, I hang out with a friend of a relative who happens to be police and his family happens to be in military so he has special plates on his car too, criminals don't fuck with these cars. One time I was in Foshan on my own and was surrounded by 6 Sichuan boys on motorbikes at 2am after visiting a local KTV. I just said, "shun di (brother) my relatives here are "gong an" here's 300rmb, go get something to eat. I don't want trouble and you don't want trouble." The guy just said thank you and left. I was scared as shit, China boys are a bit different, they look you directly in the eyes long term, it makes you really uncomfortable, especially an American like myself, we in NYC don't do this unless we want to fight or kiss. I was shocked they fell for it, but I kept my cool. NEVER AGAIN! I won't monger on my own, at least not late night.
lol when i ve been to Foshan for 3 days (Nanhai Distric) nothing happened to me and my brother, just some guys calling at us but never felt uneasy.. we are really young (23 back then) though. Everytime we were on the street no one cared about us except the homeless ppl (钱,钱,钱。。。。), but some locals gave us a hint of what we should have done so nothing happened.. maybe because we were young and not well dressed? well...was a great experience..hope to do that again
we stayed in a 2 stars hotel..no ring calls about sex service or whatever..everything was smooth...
