Newbie Visa Question

On my last trip into HK (island) my cab driver said that I would need a different visa to get from HK to TST.  I thought I'd seen a visa discussion about HK and theNew Territories on this site but have been unable to locate it again.

Can somebody confirm/deny the process for a visitor getting from HK to TST?  Do I just hop on the ferry/cab or am I going to have to stand in line somewhere?  Wan Chai's been fun but it's time to branch out . . .

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.

Erm Hong Kong is One terittory , you land at the airport you are free to roam on HK Island and also in the NT area as well as most of the outlying islands , what you can't do is go beyond Lo Wu into Shenzen or take a boat to Zuhai or Dava Bay

HK is a modern country! i.e they stamp anybody in on a tourist visa at the airport no need to pay or get one in advance for 99% of the worlds population.

Life is short very...

Yeah that's what I thought, but the cabbie was so certain that it was otherwise.  Probably he was talking about the PRC and I was just mis-interpreting

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.

This might make post of the year in the Chat section !!!

You said the last time you made a trip to HK island ... how long ago was that ?
you must have come from Kowloon (TST) side in order to get to the island (no visa needed right ?)
Hong Kong is one country two systems ... one country meaning same country as in China, two systems as in
everything else remains apart.

Hong Kong island, Kowloon and New Territories is all part of Hong Kong SAR , there's never been
any visa requirements for travelling between these 3 areas !

If you want to go to China you will need a visa

I am guessing that he didn't understand what you meant by TST, and he thought you were talking about a place in PRC.

Sounds to me like the cab driver was talking abut Macau, which to visit you need to pass through both Macao and HK immigration. However, you don't need to apply for a visa to Macau anymore than you do for HK - they automatically give most nationalities 30 days upon arrival.

that makes perfect sense, especially if the OP's last trip was more than a couple of years ago...Sex Village was the hot spot back then.
