MPAA/RIAA ever heard from them?

In the United States, the MPAA and RIAA have gone after many many users of internet for movies and mp3 files.  Anybody here ever had a problem with them?  Does anybody know if they can reach Hong Kong because of some treaty or something?

My general rule is to leech, and not seed (that much)....

OF COURSE it's not nice to take without giving back... but it's probably safer to not keep your computer on, distributing all the pirated material.

Even better, I tend to use paid downloading places like rapidshare.com
At least for the PI, it's a lot faster than most torrents.

And for older, more obscure material, I find it easier to find rapidshare links (downloading at full speed)l, than to wait for a single seed via torrrent.

Actually, HK is the first place in the world where a BT user was criminally convicted of copyright infringement. I think he got 3 months imprisonment.

But note that this guy was the one who uploaded the torrent. The implications (criminally) for seeders/downloaders are still not entirely clear and is still largely a gray area.

I guess the law has gotten out of hand everywhere. It's suddenly everybody owns what everyone elses is saying now.
Why bother with thought control, just own the thought?

Very true. There are very different implications for seeders and downloaders. The stance of Hong Kong in the matter is the opposite of that of the United States in terms of which side they go after.

Also I don't think they have gone after anyone in criminal courts in the US yet, just civil courts (i.e. no imprisonment, just fines per song or something like that). Although I admit that my knowledge is only till late 2007. Need to do more research for the last 2 years.

I think you are correct, I don't remember any criminal case either. The most recent one that I know of was the one with a ruling last summer. I just did a quick search for it and found that there has been a new ruling in the last few days reducing the fine:
