French Open for Federer!

Not too apt a topic in this sex forum, but I couldn't resist. Finally, the dude wins the French Open!

Federer etches his mark in tennis history. His final obstacle is beating the Spanish Beast, Nadal (who got beat by this year's French Open runner-up). Its great to have 2 soon-to-be legends fighting it out in the same era.

Good job Federer!  I guess he can retire now.  With pride.  And lots of money.  And a house in Dubai.  And lots of girl-friends.

Disagree, the Fed wants one more to beat Sampras' record. I think it's hard to just say a player is the best just on an arbitrary number of wins, a big factor is who their contemporaries are.

IMO Sampras was a better player, he proved that by winning several sets off Federer about 18 months ago when they competed ... Sampras is a "senior" and could still take sets off Fed in his prime.

Its tough trying to compare Sampras to Federer.  In terms of skill, obviously Federer has the edge. In terms of competitveness, Sampras has the edge. Both of them dominated the sport for acouple of years where they were just seemingly unbeatable.

IMO Sam ...

You are talking about exhibition matches that Sampras and Federer have played against each other? Don't think those matches tell you much about the players strengths

They are both different types of players from different eras.  Its tough to compare. You always compare players from the same era Sampras vs Agassi and Federer vs Nadal.

Q - Federer at his peak vs Sampras at his peak. Who wins?
My answer would be Federer.  I'm guessing yours is Sampras, Froddo?

yes Sampras ..... he had to beat Agassi in Agassi's prime. Nadal is still very young and IMO not yet in his prime, he will be the one to watch. I like Nadal and Fed so just like to watch them play, although I find Nad more exciting as he has that Spanish passion ... he has great spirit for the game too, a gracious winner and loser.

Of course the Sampras / Fed matches were exhibition. I think Fed may have taken it a little too easy at first but it was definitely very serious, they both hate losing.

tennis is such a tough game! you could win more games but still lose the match!

one could win first 2 sets 6-0, 6-0 but lose the next 3 sets 7-6, 7-6, 7-6

thats kind of fucked up to me

they should add up the winning games per set after best of 5 matches to see who won more in total???

Sampras over Federer in my books as you had people like Agassi, Courier, Rafter, Hewett and etc to contend with.  I also think Lendl would have given him a run for his money, due to the depth in the eighties: Becker, Edberg, Wilander and the lost goes on.  But IMO, none would have beaten Rod Laver in his prime, or even Ken Rosewall or Roy Emerson for that matter - Australia's golden period of tennis where they were invisible

That would destroy the game. Tennis is very gladiatorial, one on one until a winner emerges ... the player with the skill, determination, endurance, and mind strength. These matches can go for 5 hours and be in conditions so hot on the court it gets dangerous.

Imagine applying your suggested rules to a boxing match. The dude in white trunks is declared the winner because he won most rounds even though old red trunks knocked him out in the 14th?

yes we will. Some concerning talk around that Nad is nursing tendonitis injuries. If so Wimbledon's hard surface may take its toll. The players tend to want to keep their injuries private.

Who here plays?

Who here actually plays tennis, or any other sport beyond just casual activity?

I play tennis, 2 or 3 times a week, about 2 hours each time, singles and doubles.  I also play the club tournaments at Jockey Club, singles, men's doubles, mixed, and if there is a grouping by age, then in my age group (for example, combined 120 years old in men's doubles), I would expect that I (or the partner I'm with), would make it at least to semifinals, and more likely, the finals.

In open singles, if it's a round robin, I would normally be able to win half of the matches that I have to play, but then I would end up playing a 15 year old, 35 year old, 45 year old, etc opponents.  So very tough.

I'm 67 years old.

The one time Federer vs Sampras for real was in 2001 Wimbledon when Fed took out Sampras in 4th round in 5 sets, I think.  Both in their primes, Fed vs Sampras would, I think, out of 10 matches, 6 for Fed, and 4 for Sampras.   The two extra for Fed being played on clay courts; on hard or grass courts, it would be even.  Fed also had less injuries than Sampras, so possibly a bit fitter than Sampras and this would also make for giving the edge to Fed.

Federer is the greatest

Its official.  Federer is the greatest. 15 Grand Slams. Most in tennis history.

Just won Wimbledon in one of the  tightest matches yet in recent times. Down 2-6 in the second set, facing a possible 0-2 in sets, Federerstorms back to win 8-6. It goes down to the wire, 16-14 in the fifth and final set!!, when Federer finally breaks Roddick's serve, after over 4 hrs of match play.

All I can say is, what a match! And cruel for Roddick, who loses just 1 service game in the fifth set and thus loses the entire match. Impressed by both, Federer for new-found resolve and Roddick, for his new-found game, with his vastly improved backhand.

Roddick played better and he should have reap the title...but federer consistency breaks Roddick, especially with his power forehand...

But I do not feel sorry for Roddick, fucker got his superhot gorgeous GF, unlike Federer with a fat wife...lol.
Man...if Roddick won the game, he wold have his BJCIM ...guess last nite, he settle for a Condom HandJob...

I have to give props to Andy Roddick. He played a heck of a match and no one expected him to put up such a fight. He's also a hometown favorite of mine since we both live in Austin, TX. But with the way he's been playing, I'm thinking that he's finally ready to turn the corner in the tennis world.

I agree. The guy really whacks his shots. And now he's got a backhand which doesn't have precision, just a hell of a lot of power. Now he can crack a forehand and backhand.

I hadn't been watching tennis a lot lately, so when I saw the match and Roddick's performance, I was impressed.
