this event is actually denied by Japan and not taught in their education systems.

The Nanking massacre and the Unit 731 in northern china, are one of the saddest moments in modern chinese history.
The cruelty of the human mind (Japanese especially) are beyond the acceptance of humanity.

After so much suffering by the Chinese people for the Japanese chemical and biological weapons testing and research. The USA did something even worse.

After Imperial Japan surrendered to the Allies in 1945, Douglas MacArthur became the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers,
rebuilding Japan during the Allied occupation. MacArthur secretly granted immunity to the physicians of Unit 731 in exchange
for providing America with their research on biological warfare.

Yes. The massacre also happened in MAnila, both local civillians and american soldiers stationed there....I think they called it th Bataan death march, but not as bad as the one in Nanjing.

Agree there are levels of culpability but the common thread will mostly be; "but I was just following orders".  Von Braun would normally have been executed for war crimes if he didn't have the knowledge the USA wanted. He ran huge rocket research and manufacturing facilities with slave labour used for seriously dangerous tasks, he held the rank of SS-Sturmbannführer (Wehrmacht Major).  Death rates were off the scale due to chemicals involved, short cuts, fast pace, and slaves were given no protective clothing, literally worked (and beaten) to a painful death. The US sanitised his involvement post war.  

Btw Von Braun was subject of serious hunt by both the US and the Soviets in race to capture the rocket program knowledge which he carefully concealed (the blueprints, tech docs) even though ordered by Hitler, under threat of death, to destroy as allies advanced. Smart guy kept all his bargaining chips.

Bottom line, at one time or another, the ancestors of ALL of us have been in bed with the devil.  Hopefully, we have learned from the past and will not repeat it.  We cannot change history, but we can move forward and work for a better future.

I think before moving forward, admittance and acknowledgment are in order. If people forget the mistakes of man, they are bound to repeat them.

This was the whole idea for China demanding public apology till this very day but to no avail..........

After the post war, the Jap governement refused to do so knowing that they have the econmic power and influence whereby China needs to rely on them one way or another..

This massacre depict how an ordinary man is capable of behaving like animal, performing horrendous acts and how destructive human can be. A very disturbing and painful history to revisit................

What is unusual in this is that the Japanese were devastated by the war and occupied by a foreign power, and yet never apologized to anyone. It doesn't surprise me that the Japanese have never apologized to any Asian country, given Japanese feelings of superiority towards their neighbors, but neither have they apologized to the US for Pearl Harbor. Losers are expected to show a little contrition.

However, it's not at all unusual for the winners of conflicts, or countries that emerged from conflict relatively unharmed, to never admit they did anything wrong. America hasn't apologized to the Vietnamese, the Turks to the Armenians, the French to the Algerians, England for the Opium War and countless other colonial atrocities; Russia has never apologized to anyone for centuries of oppression in East Europe and Asia. Has Spain ever apologized to Native Americans for it's crimes? Only recently have the governments of the US and Australia apologized to the native inhabitants of those countries for the slaughter and dispossession. The examples are endless. And knowing the Chinese as I do, it's hard to imagine any Chinese government ever apologizing to anyone for anything.

But perhaps it would be better if Japanese men apologized to the Chinese people, American men to the Vietnamese, etc. Because it's only men who do this kind of thing. All the serial killers, genocidal dictators, military killers, architects of war - these are almost always men. Just guys doing guy things.

yes this is so, china IS rising... but what is also a blatant economic truth in the sino-japanese relationship is that they are totally interlinked...they need each other in order to function well and be strong...

both the chinese and japanese governments flame negative sentiment among their citizens about their neighbour while everyday life continues in both countries, their respective citizens relying upon their neighbour's involvement (at least in the indirect sense) in the things they put on their tables, the clothes they put on their backs to the machinery/technologies used to produce those goods, in extracting the mines, etc, to a myraid of goods/services they respectively use/consume ...

i really don't know what the absolute answer is...but from the chinese and greater asia pacific region perspective is concerned, japan has NOT apologised sufficiently for her atrocities committed during ww2...in the past, when all the other countries aside from japan were weak, japanese aid and investment was welcomed and would also numb people out over the violence committed during the past /past 2 generations ago, thereby shutting people up with money...but now they are not the only power (in fact their influence will only wane in time) and certainly not the only ones with money...so japan faces challenges of her own as her neighbours start to have bigger, louder stronger voices...

That is why in hawaii we were fucking all the japanese tourist, im doing all other asians a favor..u know after all i have to give back to the community and my country. hahaha
