Belll sound?

Hey admins - what is the signifance of the bell sound when you get to this forum? Is there a way to disable it?
It was driving me a bit nuts today when I was going back and forth between pages ding dong ding dong ding dong!

You can either check your mail and/or turn off the alert under you user options.  Drove me nuts when I first joined too.

Not a good thing to have on when you're using a PDA phone either!

I wonder if that's the reason why we have so many non-posting members...

The sound went away after I deleted that message - it is very annoying but I mostly have mute enabled o nmy computer so hadnt noticed it at first.
The problem is there is no indication anywhere to tell you that is what is causing the sound. I assumed it was one of the ad banners playing the sound. Would be good to disable the welcome message if possible or add a blurb in the FAQ?

But you are right it could have put off a lot of people - the ding dong ding dong sort of drives u a bit crazy!

Is it possible to the default set to no alert chimes on created accounts? (PM's or otherwise)

I also assumed the ringing was from some banner/ad...
