Do some black girls have natural straight hair?

I ask because I noticed that Michelle Obama's hair is straight and those of her daughters. Also a lot of US pop stars have straight hair too. Are some of them actually born with straight hair or do they all get them straightened?

Just curious.

PS  I've edited the subject title so as not to offend.

Gundam, sir:

Friendly word of advice: Please refrain from using the term "coloured or colored" when referring to someone of African or African American heritage.
Actually, no one is coloured or colored.

"Black" is still relatively acceptable.  The term "colored" became offensive in the 1960s US civil rights era.  Negro and N*gger are worse.
It's as offensive as calling an Asian person: gook, dink, slopehead, Chinaman, coolie, slant-eye, chink, Jap, nip, flip, Charlie, etc ...

Barack Obama is the first black or African American US president.  Barack Obama is the first person of color to become president of the United States.

as barack obama is the president, hes an african american!

had he been a thug, he would have been an african!

bit like the virginia tech killer!

he was described as an asian not asian american or american! cos hes a shame to the county!

had he got good grades and then became a sucessful businessman! he would have been an asian american!

i think its best to call black people, black people, as not every one of them is from africa! try describe a jamaican as an african, and he will kill you

dunno about jamicans in other parts of the world, but the ones i have met in uk hate africans!

was watching a football match, and my jamaican friends was calling sedoof of ac milan a african nigger everytime he had the ball!

Is that true? I thought that the term "coloured" was the politically correct word to use as I heard it on CNN addressing Barack Obama as the first coloured president in US history. Any bros have any idea whether the word "coloured" is offensive? I'm not sure.

Actually I'm glad you brought it up. It's something I'd like to clarify as I also have some non-white friends. I don't want to be offensive in front of them. But I'm sure a white anchor on CNN used the word just yesterday.

I can only speak from an American perspective.
If any CNN broadcaster actually used the word "colored" on the air to describe a black person, then that broadcaster absolutely no longer works for CNN.

Here's the difference.

In the states, it is acceptable to refer to any non-caucasian person as "person-of-color."
But it is NOT acceptable to refer to any non-caucasian person as a "colored person."

Barack Obama is the first person-of-color to become president of the United States.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess you are generally right.

I googled "coloured" and found there are still debates raging whether it is offensive to call a black (this word has now become acceptable) person coloured because it strips him/her of his/her identity. However, the the NAACP is the acronym for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Before the 1980s it was degratory to call a person black and "coloured" was the politically correct word to use. I myself always thought "black" was degratory. It's now the other way round. I guess I'm really old.

Now back to the topic. Are some black girls born with straight hair and not the real curly type common with those of Afro ethnicity?

Gundam:

To answer your original question.
I believe the vast majority of black women (and men) are born with tight, curly hair.

There might be some with mixed heritage (black with some European or Hispanic ancestry) that might result in straighter hair.

Black people's hair is generally extremely tight and curly, and hard to control. Many black women will chemically "relax" their hair, which is kind of like perming it straight.

So I guess Michelle Obama's hair has been chemically relaxed. It does look like it.

Does anyone get offended when whites are called whites. I think not. Too much emphasis placed on this color thing

the straight hair is not natural...most that i know say they have to perm it to straighten out...this is from to black girls that i know...the process actually takes quite long...as long or even longer then getting hair permed curly...
