Solved : dayuse.com

Just to close this out, I managed to find the website.. Dayuse.com

There has been a number of reviews saying it was a scam but I has no problem. I for call the hotel ahead of time just to check though.

The site seems to be an interesting business model.. Check in at 11, check or by 8pm Same day more than suited my purposes.

500HKD for a 4.5* in Macau

you are correct in day use doesn't require a credit card for booking

still when you check into the hotel, many hotels ask for a credit card for a damage deposit hold.
at the end of your stay, you get that deposit back.  so there is still use of a credit card.  even if it doesn't make it to your monthly statement.

you can pay for your stay using cash

For Bro that might have “your better half” checking the online credit card statement.  Because is online, the deposit holding part will be shown on the online version (but not the monthly statement).  Just in case if she check, she will know you actually checkin to a hotel.  Hold will normally be 2-4 business days, another words you will be at risk for exposure that few days,.....just saying

I actually don't know if they exist in HK but "burner" credit cards existed in EU and Australia a few years ago - maybe no longer with the whole KYC shit.

You buy them from a corner shop or post office, register them with ID, transfer cash as travelling expenses (or whatever) and then just use it like a prepaid card with no paper trail.  Once the cash runs out, you just top up again.

Had one about 6 years ago with last SO and never got burned using the reason it was multi currency so saved on FX fees etc
