Saying Hi.  Would be just fine.  I would avoid small talk.  However I was asked which girls do I recommend when I was checking out some of the girls at Kwun Tong once.

It's a unique experience. Corridors are often narrow, lit by pink neon, the girls' doors have signs in Chinese (and sometimes English) with names/services/etc. At peak times you'll find mongers wandering around in CLOSE proximity...and most of these guys are 20-something Hong Kongers.

I think some of them just want to door-knock so they can ogle half-naked women and have no real intent of getting their ticket punched. Many will stand there staring at the provider and turn away without a word--the girls HATE that, and frankly, it's rude. At the very least, say "sorry, next time" or something.

I don't fit that profile: I'm a large gwailo who doesn't speak Chinese and I know why I'm there. But there's "monger etiquette" in these buildings:

1) Stare at the floor.
2) Don't speak to each other.
3) Pretend the other guy doesn't exist.

I know it sounds weird, as we all know why we're in these buildings (whether to gawk or fuck, we're there for poussoir), but that's the deal. I don't acknowledge the presence of these other guys, and they ignore me. This code is almost never broken.

We share information anonymously on this forum. But at its core, mongering is private. There are security cameras everywhere to protect the girls. No one really cares if you're going to some walk-up for consensual sex.

But monger-etiquette means you ignore the other person. I think if you tried to start a conversation that would go absolutely nowhere.

I got weirded out by a 40s old dude, he saw me walked out the door and followed me to the lift asking for opinion and what did I do - with details!! Whatever I did in that room, from purely chatting, kissing, shagging or getting shagged, SM even just playing Nintendo with the girl  is none of your bloody business

So my 1st experience was 2 days ago at the FOREMOST Bldg on Jordan off of Nathan Road (#19?).  WOW, what a trip.  I'm in the lobby waiting for the elevator but there's a line and it consists of solely guys and it dawned on me that we're all checking out the girls.

I marveled at this: the amout of guys, the blatant reason why we're all there, the ridiculous embarrassment that we all suffer.  So on the 15th floor I get out of the elevator and everyone else knows where to go and I'm just tripping out at the pink glow of the hallways lined with doors & their little messages and sometimes photos of the girls.  Guys would walk down a hallway and come back out.  I'd do the same and read on the doors "Busy".  Then I'd walk down a flight and the same guys were there doing the same thing, coming out of hallways that I would now enter.  But every guy is apparently unconscious of the fellow next to him.

It just seems so silly.  Of course i respect everyone's privacy, but i got no problem pointing out how humorous we appear.

I didn't even know there is a monger code for the walkups. I just thought those guys I saw staring at the floor were shy about the whole thing...perhaps that is why they ran away from me because I was acting normal.

Anyway I always preferred the saunas/spas because the above monger code does not apply in those places. Everyone would greet each other and trade tips on which girl is good and so on.

I learned something from your post.  Thank you.  That's a good point that I didn't know.  I had avoided saunas because I preferred dealing directly w/the girls and not thru management or their bosses.  You raised a very good tip and the environment you depict sounds very comfortable.  

Now I must learn about this sauna/spa realm
