my response was harsh and crass but perhaps it wasn't uncalled for or excessive I submit ...
it was harsh and crass
and it was both uncalled for and excessive
If you've been here for a while you've seen a flood of newbies start out just as naively ... and the majority of them respond to friendly guidance and some even go on to make a valuable contribution of their own.
1. Always welcome a newbie. You can be ironic if you want to, witty if you're creative, but always be useful and constructive.
2. There is NEVER any excuse for rudeness or flaming, not even when it's provoked. That kind of posting just makes you look bad and lacking self-control. Let others be rude, and call them out on it, but don't let them ever drag you down.
3. If you've got the time to make a posting - be it a one-liner, or more - make it count, to inform guide and inspire others by your example. To do otherwise is to disrespect the effort made by all those who have invested countless man-weeks of their time building this Forum into the authoritative resource that it is. If you want to be a Senior, act like one.
