Where to stay in Seoul for Pleasure and Business??

Hey Bros,

I am a white American, frequent HK visitor and contributor here.  Going to Seoul for first time, on my own.  Can stay wherever I like.  Have read lots of posts and starting to have feel for the place and its challenges (and opportunities!) for mongering.

Can anyone recommend a hotel or neighborhood to strategically base myself?  It has to be reputable - I need to tell folks I am visiting where I am staying, perhaps meeting them there etc, but would like it to be near, or accessible to, foreigner friendly action.  I don't mind taking public transport.  (Big fan of HK MTR).  One post mentioned the Hyatt?

any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks

I think the best hotels in Seoul are either The Shilla or the Grand Hyatt. Both are north of the river (Gang-buk) and it will take you some time to get to the action packed Gangnam (river south area). Subway wise only the Shilla has an ok connection, otherwise I suggest to take a taxi. The Intercontinental at COEX will probably serve you best from a business perspective. Reputable and close to what you are really looking for. Keep in mind that Gangnam is not 100% foreigner friendly expecially for the more Korean type services (search officetel).

For WC pick-up bars better check out Itaewon district. This is basiscally the foreigner district but services are sometimes not up to the local standard. Then The Grand Hyatt is ideal. The Shilla is on the other side of the mountain but a taxi ride through the tunnel will bring you there in 5min.

I have booked in to stay at the Hyatt.  Also read that sometimes there are WGs in the bar there - we shall see!
