General comments to answer above:
1. They open from 1pm depending on: the bar, how busy things have been and the day of the week.
2. If you dont want to part with HKD2000, dont bother going they are expensive places to punt. Personally I've never parted with less than HKD2500 for a session in a curtain bar albeit I am an overniter guy. My average for a few drinks, lap dance and a take out for overnite would be ~HKD4,500 I would guess. I've spent as much as HKD7,500 in one night.
3. Most girls are Pinay, there are quite a few Thais and, to a lesser extent, Chinese girls.
4. I have never enjoyed punting as much as I have in these bars, YMMV of course.
5. I have a soft spot for San Francisco but the best value for me has come from Waikiki.

My recommendation would be to drop in to San Francisco's later in the afternoon, around 5pm is always quiet for them, get yourself a free drink - ask the mama before you go in and they will offer it to you. They will sit two girls with you most likely. Buy them both a "small drink" for HKD121 each & have a relaxed chat. A bit later ask one you like the most to come into the private room, will cost you a "mixed drink" HKD242, she will drop her top and give you a lap dance, you can DKF, molest her tits and have a decent grope - repeat as desired   You can bar fine her at any time for a short/long/overnite session, HKD1500-4500 will be asked, you can get them to HKD1000-2500 depending on how busy the bar has been.

Yeah..., you need to be careful not to get fleeced (pricey girl-drinks) in those places.  I am not sure why you liked them more than the regular clubs (Neptunes, Escape, Makati, etc) Halfclover??  I found the mamasans are ALWAYS pushing drink after drink so bloody fast that it ruins the mood and any chance to have a nice relaxed time with a gal before hitting a hotel.

I tried a few and reported here (had to TOFTT, haha) and ultimately had fun each time with wickedely hot filipinas (there is no question they recruit some absolutely top-shelf babes).  But I paid waaay more than I would have at Makati or Escape, and never able to really just chill and enjoy some music with a hottie first.  Too pressured.  

The benefits of a Curtain Bar over the regular Wanchai clubs?  I only see a few:

--  they are the only places open early afternoon.  All the other clubs don't get busy till 9pm or 10pm (earlier on weekends, and especially Sunday, of course).  
-- the quality of the gals is usually extremely high and there is no competition for them.  I had many Wanchai clubbing nites where I just couldnt find a gal that rocked AND clicked.  It happens.  But in those Curtain Bars you are all-but-guarranteed to find numerous 9s and 10s and all playing super-eager to be your girlfriend.  And yet you still get to chat and choose and pick the one that best makes a connection.  
-- ANYTHING can happen behind those curtains.  I got raped in one by pretty much the entire gang of WGs AND the Mamasan.  (It was early afternoon, place was dead, I was drunk and cash-loaded (bad combination) and within an hour every gal in the place was completely naked (as was I), with them alternating on my dick and sitting on my face!!)  I was sorta shell-shocked when I left -- and spent about $8,000HK!!!! by the time we were all done!  (mind you, I took a few out with me).  But, good lord.. that shocked the wallet!

I never wrote up my Curtain Bar reports (too lazy), but I too will pop into the curtain bars when the normal Wanchai haunts' pickings are slim (early in the afternoon, or late in to the evening).  

I usually go straight to the Mamasan, and ask her which of her stable has the best combination or easy-going nature and great service--and negotiate from there.  I have one or two MMS on speed-dial and WeChat!  I tell the MMS upfront I don't want her watered-down drinks or crappy wine...I'd just rather she keep it and let me pay the bar fine.  MMS are usually understanding and cool with it.  

Overnight usually runs HK$ 2,500-3000 for--as previously mentioned--top shelf WG...4.5/5 Looks, 4-5/5 Service, 4-5/5 Attitude is about on par.  The best part is that if your girl fails in Service or Attitude department, you actually have some recourse with the MMS--not something available for your normal Wanchai pick-ups.  

As a matter of fact, I've found a good % (like 1 in 3) of Curtain Bar WG's to be very affectionate and clingy once "off site".  Their work schedules are so regimented and they're so far from family and friends, that if you're kind, cool and fun, they love to hang (and f*ck the bejesus out of you) on their infrequent off days/times--usually without any monetary demands....just eats and light shopping.  Makes the initial investment pay off IMO.

Last paragraph is often overlooked when discussing curtain bars. You have recourse with the bar if the service is poor - And overnight means OVERNIGHT - No case of the girl running out after one pop as you sometimes find in the wanchai bars. And there is nothing wrong with taking the girl for a drink or two after paying the bar fine. And regular customers can get a discount. And with ladies wanting 2000 for short time there is little difference in price.

I know what you mean about drinks but I chatted with the Mamas early on in my "Curtain career" and found that they both remember you and remember that you don't like to be harassed for drinks. Once you get over that part they are just fine. I have no doubt the mamas wouldn't forget Wander and you might be harassed to fuck them all but not so much on the drinks

These girls do a 6 month tour, 0 days off (when they tell you it is a day off they mean they don't have to start work until later in the day, say 8pm.) they are often sexually inexperienced when they get the job and have no choice about who feels them up in the bar or takes them out - a tough gig in any language.
They really appreciate it when someone shows them a good time and not just the ceiling of their hotel room or a Victoria Hotel. They do fall in love quickly and can get very clingy in the space of a few hours - caution. Of course this means that when they fuck they fuck for real - very nice,

Yes and no.
There is recourse but the girls are amazing at picking up on the vibe and likely behaviour of guys. I know a couple of girls who have been on overnighters that have lasted less than a couple of hours!!
All about relationship with these girls, if they like you they will stay with you until they have to start work the next day, with no extra payment.
