A Raid

A couple of weeks back, check this out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sE0CGIaaHU

When I saw all that money spread out, it kinda made me feel for the girls who did all that for nothing.
As I live outside mainland and raised overseas, not really sure what happens to these girls? I know law is strict but what really happens? What are the lookin at, a fine, jail time, warning, corruption pay off? what?

Also wonder what happen to any punter who is caught.

The Chinese crack me up. They are so hypocritical. They know this shit goes on but they look the other way as long as money is exchanged.

Selling your body has been around since the beginning of mankind. As long as no drugs are involved, let the shit go.

A WG I am familiar with told me this.

If they are caught in a raid their names are publicly listed as a WG in their home town.  She said one of her friends was caught in a raid and that this happened to her friend.  This would impact the girl's ability to find a future husband as no man would want everyone to know his wife used to be a WG.

I terms of fines she did not mention any but I assume that the public listing of the name is a big enough effect to mess up their lives for good.

On the mainland administrative detention is often used, the customer disappears for 15 days or so. As for the girl it varies from nothing to shaming and up to 2 years, depends on the police involved.

Of course if the customer is someone with party connections he may get away scot free or finish up on the internet and all the rest of the fuss that party members reap for misbehaving.

Really this public naming thing is very new to me... any idea how this happens? Is there like a public notice board in a city with a list of prostitutes? Wonder how long that is by now!
Also a girl can change names too? and get another passport too if she really wanted to fool a future husband or whatever.

The Chinese has always operated on the value of "Face", an important but intangible value placed on the person's "good name" and character.

A public naming, possibly through the media or newspaper would cause the affected person to "lose" face and diminish their social standing among family and friends. An effective deterrent, but one that unfairly scars and destroys the person's reputation, often for life.

Prohibition of non criminal activities never works. It simply drive the activities underground, often with the help of triads and make law enforcement even more difficult. Look at what happened wen the US banned alcohol in the 1920's.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition_in_the_United_States

It is always better to legalize, regulate, educate and help those mainland WGs understand sexual health issues, HIV, STD, pregnancy and alternative career options.

How likely are my chances if I were to bring my Canadian passport... speak only English (even though I am Chinese).. from being detained 15 days?

You would think we can play the "I didn't know this was illegal since I'm not from here"' card

Nothing would be more pleasing to the LE than making this the foreign "catch of the day". In the worst case scenario, it may create a diplomatic situation if this gets widely publicized in the Chinese and International media

I suspect you would not really like to seat for 15 days in the slammer for your 15 minutes of International fame this way, Bro

Then again, you could become the International Punter and Stud of the Year

Always punt safe in China and good luck!

I'm just trying to figure out what's the best case scenario to get out of a situation like this (other than not punting in China).

I've never had a problem so far... but I've always had the girls come to my own hotel rooms. I intend to visit KTV for once but have always worried about a raid.

The Mainland China part of the forum have very good advice from the mods and other Bros living and punting in China

http://forum.sex141.com/eforum/forumdisplay.php?fid=17

Read through and you will you get a better understanding oh how to punt stealthy and effectively in the mainland, and keep a low profile at the same time.

Hunter has an excellent sticky on China called:  Crackdowns, Raids and LE Activity

http://forum.sex141.com/eforum/v ... &extra=page%3D1

I am certainly no expert but I suppose that in the event of getting caught (touch wood!), there is really nothing you can do other than to face the consequences and do the time in the slammer while keep the lowest profile possible.

Other bros may have a different opinion on how to get out of the situation using a Canadian passport but it may very well backfire in a big way, causing you more grief than a lesser sentence.

Reading what you said ...
you really believe 'public naming' is new to you ?
you also think that by 'changing names' would solve your problems ?

you've been the biggest moron in this forum over the last 4 years,
aren't you tired of doing the same thing over and over again ?

no chance...

China like EVERYWHERE else has controlled tolerance for certain things. There is a balance between perceived public condemnation of prostitution and acceptance that it is a part of life for many people of all socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Obviously LE in China know where to find prostitution... just like LE in USA, Australia, Europe etc know where to find it. At times LE chooses to crack down and at other times they choose to ignore. it. There can be many reasons why there is a crackdown in China just like there can be many reasons why there is a crackdown in Western Countries.

Bottom line, if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time... Pleading ignorance will NOT help you.

Solution, find local friends, colleagues, business partners etc who know what is going on, have an ear to the ground. And know how to avoid being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's not foolproof but it's helpful.

If you want foolproof... dont punt.

stupidy is never an excuse.

There was a story many years ago with an american kid of was chewing gum & littering.   He was subject to Singapore's caning punishment.  There was a huge outcry from USA saying it was too harsh....the embassy tried to intervene...blah blah...   Everyone is subject to local laws.

Yap. I remembered the case you mentioned well as I am originally from Singapore.

An American kid on a vandalism spree, got caught and sentenced to jail, a fine and 6 strokes of the cane. Bill Clinton, then US president intervene directly with the Singapore President for clemency and the caning was reduced to 4 strokes as a gesture of respect and goodwill but he still got his buttocks smacked by the cane.

Details below:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_P._Fay

Pleading ignorance of the country's law is not the way to go and you won't get away with it just because you have a foreign passport

As Bro Sirtiger says, everyone is subject to local laws.
