To set the stage, we're talking about 380 to 420 RMB full service at spa, so no big 100 RMB tips are appropriate. Okay so what do you do when you have no small bills and you're now paying for the action? Let's say the WG is nearby watching you. I'm never really sure why--just part of the service or wanting a tip? I usually assume it is because they are hoping for a tip or maybe because they get shafted if the john walks out without paying.

So now you have change from your stack o' 100 RMB bills. Do you tip the WG right in front of the MMS/PPS or do you decline? If I have the money on hand I always pay in the room. But if I do not, I am torn about what to do.

If you pay in front of the MMS/PPS then maybe they take some of this from the girl.

If you pay in front of the MMS/PPS then maybe the MMS/PPS starts to think they can jack up the rates--either next time they see you, or some other laowei, or even for everyone.

If you pay in the front room with everyone around, is it embarrassing for the girl? "Hey look, everyone! Her service was really good if you know what I mean, nudge-nudge, wink-wink."

The one time I did do this, she did not exactly look happy, and 50 extra for a 418 service is pretty damn good for a chick who didn't give me a BJ and who made me shower by myself (what can I say, she was super hot, super tiny, super tight, and didn't complain one iota. In fact, was right into it.) So it got me wondering.

sounds like a conundrum without a single answer ... here are some ideas

how about preparing a tip, nicely folded up, in advance?  Then you can avoid flashing your wad in public.  Or you can get nimble at sorting your bills sight-unseen in your pocket ...

If you have the necessary privacy to prepare, you can also give a nice tip by wrapping a big bill inside a small bill ... great for public actions, makes you look stingy and delivers a nice surprise when she's in private later

... and ... of course ... the "thank-you" handshake that hides what's in your palm and goes with a smile and a hint of a wink ...

I guess making sure you have the right notes is just part of your prep.

Tipping at a veggie place for having had some meaty services - "Hey look, everyone! Her service was really good if you know what I mean, nudge-nudge, wink-wink." - I deal with by giving 2 tips, one in the room and another one at the counter.  I want to show papasan  that she was great, but not that great.

Harder to do than it looks! I think the drug dealers must practice it a lot before putting it to work.

Yeah normally I am prepared but I do a lot of things without cash in China, believe it or not, so I often get stuck with a stack of 100s and the lady at the local corner store doesn't like it if just buy a bottle of water to break a 100! So sometimes I'm left with nothing but overkill when the urge strikes.

I have a tremendous stack of Maos at home.  Would it be rude to use those for a tip?  Four stacks of 100 each?

I am also hell bent on having a wad of smaller bills to the point of OCD. I keep a track of it to make sure I have EVERY denomination and then an extra one for safety.  I then sepate the larger bills from the smaller bills so people don't need to see it all.

Yeah it sounds crazy what I do but I tell you one thing....it sure beats fumbling cash, asking for change or put people in embarassing/awkward situation.
