May be get a sim card from peoples/china mobile, it's a payg but the option of having data (gprs only). This would be the easiest option if you have a smartphone.

Otherwise, check out the following:

www.smartone.com

www.three.com.hk

There are options where u can have a usb dongle and payg data sims, but a little pricey.....

At my apartment in hong kong, there are a couple of wifi networks without a password. So, whenever my internet is not working,I use them. If you are lucky, you might get a wifi network without a password at your apartment.

Otherwise, you can just go to McDonalds, Starbucks or KFC and use their internet.
Or you can just buy a USB modem from Vodafone or somewhere and use their monthly plan. I guess this would be the best option as you can access internet anytime without any issues.

Hope this helps.

Keep in mind that some public WIFI don't want you visiting certain sites like this one, so it may be blocked. I think the most convenient route is the pay-as-you-go data plans as mentioned above.

in all public spaces you will find some wifi signals from the phone operators like pccw or china mobile. you can pay some pass so you can login to those hotspots. it's quite cheap.

You can always use proxy sites for accessing the websites which are blocked. One of the them is vtunnel.com.
Make sure to disable pop-up windows because many ads will open.

My post was a reply to barg123's post where he wrote-
"Keep in mind that some public WIFI don't want you visiting certain sites like this one, so it may be blocked."

I was just saying that just incase if the website is blocked, you can use a proxy server to access that website.

Hope it clears up your question.

Just log onto the PCCW WIFI services.

Its something like $100 for a month (HK). Find a phone booth, connect to it. And open your broswer it should redirect to a screen where you can buy a password for a month or so. PCCW does not block 141. Signals tend to vary though.

HOWEVER all MTR, Public library, government bulding websites block 141 and associated websites. So do most shopping mall free WIFI. The big shopping centre in SSP and CWB block it.

Mc'ds and Starbucks do not. Hell a couple years back I was writing a report in a Mc'ds.

Life is short very...

McDonalds WiFi kicks you off every so often; tried it in SSP... I ended up just using some random's wifi with no security. I slapped on my own VPN for safe measures and was happily browsing 141 with no problems. Come to think of it, there was a lot of unsecured wifi's; but it's safe to have a plan b just in case.

These still exist here in HK, interestingly, even though HK might be the densest cell city in the world. These over-sized wifi access points probably exist more for PCCW to advertise their pay wifi service more than for actual pay phone use.
