If you're in a hotel fight it

the rate is a room rate not a per-person rate

Unless you're in a guest-house??

I had a different situation once when staying in a guest-house: the guest-house was giving me a double room at the price of a single room, so when I brought a girl back I paid the extra for her.  No issue there.

I know Villa Victoria charges extra for the 3rd person.

It was $360 for the overnight after 4am then add $260 for the 3rd person.

I've never heard of such a thing before at a Hotel, and quite the surcharge.

I've seen some prices quoted for triple or even quad occupancy and its a bit higher, maybe 10-20% surcharge. But somehow I don't that applies here. Definitely dispute the charge and let us know how this turns out.

Im not sure if it's kosher to name the hotel to avoid in this thread, but I'd be interested in hearing it via PM at least.

Unless its stated clearly somewhere surely you can get out of it. Definitely fight it, especially if its a hotel. Noticed some guest-houses have different rules, not the standard room rates.

Overslept once in Macau and was told I had to pay extra day, but they didn't have my creditcard and she'd handed deposit back to me, so just walked out instead. Any chance you could just walk out?

Well unfortunately i decided to leave my amex on file, but still will dispute when the bill is settled. Will just say either take off the cahrge or ill chargeback it with the bank when i get home. Unsure whether or not im able to name te hotel, lets jus say Mongkok east MTR is VERY close to me.  To be Honest, it smacked of being a charge to discourage WG's as my guest was my young lady friend arriving late at night by herself.  The funny thing is  ill have stayed here nearly 2 weeks at around $1500 hk a night (my usual length of trip) and besides this, i was genuinely very happy with the service.  For the sake of a few hundred dollars. They have now guaranteed ill never return, just bad business.

you didn't ans. my ques.....did your guest stay overnight? most hotels is based on two occupancy.  Unless you put more than two, a small small fee is sort of the norm.

I wouldn't do the charge back unless you have no other alternative.  I recc you talk to the hotel.  I am confident with a good chat & the business you bring, you can get it removed.  Escalate it to the manager if it appears difficult.

ah i see, yes she did stay overnight, however in the brief argument with them before it was done, they mentioned it didnt matter, all NIGHT visitors must pay, regardless of if they stay a minute or all night. frankly i couldnt be arsed to argue at the time, only with hindsight am pissed off, room was booked for one guest (dont know why the price would have been the same had i done it for 2 roughly, but did it without thinking i suppose) but as mentioned before, im nearly 100% positive it was because she wa a young south east asian girl. i very much doubt we would have had that conversation, had my grandma come to visit

i see, again, i recc. you call them & ask for a supervisor.  they have no hard proof of the guests at your room.  Its your word against theirs.  It should be a easy call imo.  It a simple phone call & I am confident you get this remove.  You have nothing to lose but a few min. conversation with the supervisor.  good luck bro

With Amex and also with a good argument they will usually initially withhold payment and then perhaps absorb it themselves.  Give it a shot as the saying goes - "Nothing gained nothing ventured".  I have seen at some of the hotels some hotel security personnel watching on each floor.  So it would be very interesting to see what they have to say (debatable) but if they have video then can work against you.

Not fair for the hotel to charge you a WG/One night stand premium but then if they have your AE card on record there's not much you can do. The hotel will give you the standard line that it's hotel policy. Just don't patronize that hotel again.

What im interested in is how does the hotel know that you had company and charge back accordingly? - usually its a per room basis and there should be no basis for this charge back. Suggestion: raise the issue with the credit card company, say that there is no basis for the charge, the credit card company will then investigate. Then when the hotel says its company policy etc, say that this was NOT highlighted. The trouble generated by the credit card company will prompt a speedy resolution by the hotel.

Unless it's in the agreement you signed when checking in, this is total BS IMO. You pay for a room in a hotel, it's not on a per person basis. I can sort of understand if you tried to sneak someone in, but only if it exceeded the usual double occupancy rule.

If you've been a frequent guest at this particular hotel, I would think they would do something. Nonetheless, if they give you the runaround, they'll lose your patronage in the future.

We stayed 3 guys in a Suite at the LKF by Rhombus. Were charged $500 x 16 for "Unregistered Guest". There was no mention of this extra charge before the day before checkout, when we received the hotel check for review.

Luckily they didn´t spot ll the WG´s we had up there, could of been a lot worse

I would not be a happy camper if this happened to me. Hotels are supposed to charge a per room rate. Even if they charged per person. Did you actually let them know you had company? Unless someone actually saw, i would say that this is hard to prove. I would definitely take this up with the credit card company once all is said and done and the hotel wont help you come up with a resolution.

The problem is that I really don´t want to make a big issue about all the guests we had in our room... I chose to take it like a man and learn from my mistake. Next time I will stay at a better and more WG friendly hotel.

On the positive side, no one made an issue about more than one WG in the room at a time
