I had the unfortunate experience of bumping into a family friend during a mongering trip at one of those walk ups. We both were unaware of each others mongering ways and therefore it was very awkward. We were both shocked and just sorta nodded and walked off. What would you do in such a situation? and have you been in such a situation before?

Don't think it is a one off thing with him. Usually, a family man newbie punter goes astray when he first travel overseas and particularly to China. If they enjoyed it they would feel an urge and a need to go get more, otherwise why take the chance of being spotted in HK? He must've had needed it badly that day to head out there on his own.
