In Asia at least, Singapore is by far the most smoker-unfriendly country i've been to. On a
recent trip, i was taking a smoke outside the entrance of one of the shopping malls and after
2 puffs, a security guy told me that i was in a 'no smoking area'. I asked him where i could
go to enjoy my tobacco in peace and he directed me to this designated smoking area. He then
told me that there is this "5 meter rule" in Singapore now (i.e. you can't smoke 5 meters
from any entrance of a building).
You can get fined for flouting this new law and
unlike other places like HK or Thailand, this rule is quite strictly enforced.
China on the other hand, as pointed out by Bro Sexpert, loves smokers! Restaurants, bars,
malls, air-conditioned places are all home ground for tobacconistas. Heck, i even had a smoke
with the taxi driver on my way to Shanghai Airport in the cab! Wonder if they smoke on the
public buses as well
