Any Info on tour packages / companies to thailand?

On my next HK visit, I am considering taking a few days to hit thailand, maybe Phuket or something, just to get a change of pace.  I see a few different companies offering packages online and in the newspapers.

Anyone can give me some heads up, nice places, either in Phuket or Bangkok, and maybe better tour companies to deal with?  I am thinking one of the 3 night 4 day things, something along those lines.  It seems the prices are very good, the flying time short (a couple of hours), and the costs once there fairly low overall.

Suggestions? Ideas?  website?  ;)

Well, in bangkok it would almost be a sin not to at least go visit the Soi's, but I am actually somewhat considering it a bit of a break.  It's -20C here tonight, so something a little warmer would make me feel better.  I haven't done Thailand before, so it's on the list of places to consider... that or maybe Philipines for a few days.

Plus hey, I love little brown asses ;)

CanuckGuy,

I would recommend that you not bother with a tour group.  Thailand is quite easy to manage.  Of the 2 destinations you listed, I would recommend Bangkok over Phuket.  Its a bit more for the girls but you will have more choices than in Phuket.  Also, you may want to consider Pattaya which is about an hour or two bus ride away from the Bangkok airport.
I assume you are interested in a tour b/c you are are bit hesitant about checking out Thailand by yourself?  If that is the case, let me reassure you that Bangkok if easy to figure out.  Anyway, let me give you a short rundown on how to manage BKK.

First, from HK, you can take Air Asia.  The flight is actually cheaper from Macau in case you may want to hit the Macau saunas before heading to Thailand.  Once you land in BKK, you can take a bus or go to the official taxi line just outside of the terminal.  Do not use any of the people asking you if you would like a taxi or limo - they tend to be ripoffs.  In the taxi line, you can just tell the attendants where u want to go and they will write it down for the taxi driver.  The cost can range from 250 to 400 THB.

I would recommend you get a hotel in the Sukhumvit area.  Just book through Agoda and its quite simple. I have stayed at Dynasty Grande, Dream Hotel and Livingstone Lodge.  I liked all three but for a first time visitor, I recommend Dynasty Grande.  It is 1 block from the Nana Entertainment Plaza.

There are 3 main areas to have our kind of fun in BKK: Nana, Soi Cowboy and Patpong.  Just skip Patong - lots of rip offs there.  I like both Cowboy and Nana but Nana can have a lot of ladyboys hanging around so be careful who you choose if this is not your thing.   Cowboy is short street with 20-30 gogo bars.  My favorite is Tilac, but Baccara are Shark are also nice.  At Nana, I like Angelwitch.  Their nightly show is fun to watch your first time in BKK.

Beside these 2 recommendations, there are many massage places all over BKK.   You can search for "soapie"  or "massage" on the forum to see some other reco's from other punters.  I prefer the Gogos to massage places, but others may feel otherwise.

Even if you do not speak Thai, any cab driver will know Nana and Cowboy.  If you are interested in sightseeing, BKK is fairly easy to navigate by public transport or taxi.  If you want something more organized, any hotel can arrange daily tours for you.

Anyway, let me know if you have any specific questions and I can try to help.

adding on what jayleesf said, I'd include the Ratchadipsek Entertainment Center area places, namely Poseidon, as your main location.  The girls here tend to be lighter-skinned and better looking, and more of the Han homeboys hang out there.  That said, Nana and Cowboy are fun areas as well.  Also, don't discount normal places such as malls and food courts - I've picked up girls from both types of places as well.

all depends ... if you're here during the CNY fortnight or over easter break the peies on packages would be sky high
and from what I hear all packages (or most) are already sold for CNY.
As for areas to stay in, bro jayleesf and Jesun gave some good info !

Phuket has enough variety for a few days, but I'd also recommend Bangkok for the sheer diversity of the experiences available.  I've never been to Pattaya.  My sense is that it's one long, overwhelming series of beer bars...  Going with a group of like-minded punters is fun, but other than that, you don't need a tour group.  Yes, the locals and the taxi drivers will take advantage of you, but not badly.  Just smile and go with the flow...

In terms of airlines...  AirAsia is cheap, but not necessarily the cheapest.  China Airlines often has round trips in the 1300-2000 HKD range.  There are also quite a few airlines that connect through BKK to HKG -- such as Royal Jordanian, Sri Lankan, Emirates, Kenyan Air, a Pakistani airline I forget, and at least one or two more.  They typically run several flights a week or one a day at most.  So if you might want to change your itinerary at short notice, you're hosed...  But they often offer the lowest airfares if you have some scheduling flexibility...  from about 750 to 1200 HKD (although they have been higher lately).  Check Zuji.com, and then follow up by checking individual airline sites.  A good discount travel agent will also know of these fares and be able to line you up.

I agree that Agoda is a great resource for hotels.  If you want to minimise cab trips, plan to use the MRT (subway) and BTS (sky-train) to get around.  Nana, Soi Cowboy, and Patpong (Which I also would avoid) are all easily accessible by BTS.  The latter two are also easily accessible by MRT.  Some of the good smaller massage places are accessible by BTS or MRT, but some of the bigger and better ones will require taxi rides (unless you want to venture onto the bus system!)...  So choose your hotel accordingly.

And above all...

Have fun, CGP

BKK is always a good choice , girls in pattaya can be cheaper than other placers, but other thing like hotel, food, drinks etc is much more expensive than bangkok, etc.

What's the deal with deleting your BKK "report" in International?   Stealing large chunks from http://www.i.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=28597 and passing it off as your own encounter was bad, but deleting before others could see what went down was cowardly and has harmed your rep beyond repair.  Faking reports could lead to the poster being banned.

It looks like I am in Asia from Jan 14th or so until 25th or maybe 30th, I want to get out of town before CNY so that I don't get nailed by higher prices and the disappearing WG issue.

I was sort of looking at tours only because they would take care of a couple of the worst issues, getting from airport to hotel, and getting back on time.  Otherwise, I typically freelance my trips.

Now, on a more serious issue: security in Bangkok.  I have heard all sorts of stories, from pickpockets to outright robberies of single white dudes wandering around.  Anyone want to comment on this?

I always stayed at one of the hotels along Ratchadapisek Road such as Fortune (now Grand Mercure Fortune), Emerald, Grand, .. I walked or took taxi/Subway up and down along Ratchadapisek Road to visit many body massage soapies such as Poseidon, Copa Cobana, Emmanuelle, Nataree, Caesars, Amsterdam.

There are many talents at each place.

Have fun!

It is very simple to take taxi from the airport to your hotel in Bangkok as long as you have the name of the hotel. If you want to be sure, ask someone at information booths inside the airport to write down the name of your hotel in Thai language on a piece of paper to hand it to the taxi driver. Make sure you ask the taxi drive to use the meter. Do not bargain how much it costs to go to your hotel. Just use the meter. You also have to pay for expressway if you choose.

Bangkok is one of the safer places I have been to. I always take extra precautions when I am away from home. In Bangkok, I do not have to use more precaution than Macau or Hongkong.

For non-mongering

Thailand is very much geared towards tourism and there is (literally) a tour agent on every corner and in most hotels. I would not book onto a tour, but rather do a bit of research on the net and have an idea of the places you want to see, then arrange it when you get there - this will save you a packet. (BTW - I am talking non-mongering here as all the hot-spots have already been addressed).

Bangkok - great city with good mongering options and plenty of temples, good restaurants and shows:
Temples or Wats - see the Grand Palace, Wat Arun and Wat Pho are all stunning and close to one another. There are literally hundreds of others if this takes your fancy.
The River - it's fun to trek up and down the busy river during the day (you can combine this with the temples). Get a day pass from http://www.chaophrayaboat.co.th/index.htm
The Floating Market - worth a visit early in the morning before the crowds arrive.
Kanchanaburi (?) - I took a great day tour a few years back to the 'Death Railway' where the japanese worked thousands of POW's to death in WW2. Includes the famous River Kwai. Very good tour and quite emotional for Aussies or Brits in particular. Tours to this area can include a trip to a Tiger Temple where you can pose for a photo with a sleepy tiger!

Pattaya - slightly cheaper mongering, an average beach, just 2 hrs from Bangkok:
There's a beach, so you can swim or relax there, Scuba diving (average), etc...

Phuket - great beach area:
Phi Phi Island - just paradise, beautiful beaches and perfect blue water.
Elephant tours through the 'jungle' nearby.
Some really good Scuba diving.

And, just for something completely different,
Chiang Mai - I think this is Thailand's 2nd biggest city, up north in the hills:
There are heaps of wats scattered throughout town.
Walk the moat and old city wall around the perimeter.
Elephant tours,
Zip-line canopy tour,
The 'Hill-tribe' tours - you may have seen pictures of the 'long-neck' people with the rings that elongate their necks - you can meet them!
Thai cooking class - okay, it sounds daggy, but you get to eat everything you cook!!
Beacuse it is up in the hills, CM is a bit cooler too.
Note - mongering options are limited in Chiang Mai.

Given that you are only considering a few days, I would recommend just going to Bangkok. There is lots to do during the day and the mongering here is the best in the country. If you can stay for a week, consider 2 or 3 nights in Pattaya. I would only include Phuket (or Chiang Mai) if you are considering a second week or more.

In terms of security, I have never had a problem. Just use common sense.

Also there is a pretty handy bus that runs from the airport into town. The AE3 bus takes you right into action central with a few stops near the top end of sukhumvit rd. just follow the signs in the airport.  http://www.bangkokairportonline.com/node/55

Hope this helps bro and have fun!!
