For God's sake don't get in a car to travel to the airport and don't even think about boarding one of those planes they fly around the World to come here - much safer to walk.

If you can get here in one piece you should be OK ...

they do make you fill out the health check forms every time you go into HK and into China, at all border crossings.  They seem to screen everyone's temperature more carefully at the Huanggang border crossing passing through Lok Ma Chau more than the Luo Hu from Lowu crossing.

When I was flying into HK recently, I felt like my whole face was flush (perhaps from taking a Vitamin C sex pill) and feverishly (no pun intended) took some Tylenol and literally drank about 30 cups of water.  Luckily I had an aisle seat, must have went to the bathroom about 10 times during the last half of the flight.  That was the last thing I needed - to be hauled off to a quarantined area for 7 days.  Luckily no one was checking for temperature when I got to customs, but by then I was feeling much better.

Thank you guys. But is the mongering scene still strong or people are moving around wearing a mask. I don't want to visit a wg who is wearing a mask.

I plan to visit James S lee Mansion and Hankok apartment. what is the scene there like??????

buddy, don't mean to be an ass, but just how paranoid are you?  you think any WG would get biz wearing a mask when she opens the door for you?  if she needs to be wearing a mask, she's most likely not going to be working.  biz is slower b/c the economy just went to hell and hasn't completely picked up yet.  as for the locations you asked about, run a search first.

Don't worry, once you get off the airplane they will zap you with a thermometer and you will be immune to all swine flu.

if you walk through mongkok for example on a saturday evening, take notice how many people actually wear a face mask...
and this is (one of) the most busiest areas in hk!

hm...should you be worried about swine flu?

answer....not really.

here let me put this into perspective....

SARS had a case fatality rate of 9.6% of the 8096 cases of infection there were 774 deaths.

while swine flue (official name newH1N1) has a case fatality rate of under 0.9%, of 239,550 reported cases, 2256 fatalities were reported.

The reason swine flu is a pandemic is because of its spread, not serverity.

so while i don't recommend you run around licking toilet bowls, you shouldn't worry about it more than any other
flu virus.

oh, to put this into another perspective that is more relevant to this forum

condom failure: Causes of failure (wikipedia)

Condoms may slip off the penis after ejaculation, break due to improper application or physical damage (such as tears caused when opening the package), or break or slip due to latex degradation (typically from usage past the expiration date, improper storage, or exposure to oils). The rate of breakage is between 0.4% and 2.3%, while the rate of slippage is between 0.6% and 1.3%. Even if no breakage or slippage is observed, 1–2% of women will test positive for semen residue after intercourse with a condom. "Double bagging," using two condoms at once, also increases the risk of condom failure.

um...so you are safer from the swine flu than you are from WGs

I just traveled to HK and I wasn't that worried about swine flu, it seems not so bad in terms of severity, just remember to face mask if cautious!

They scan everyone but HKIA has very sophisticated set up, many people don't even realise they are being scanned. There is a small sign about taking off hats ..... Look back a little further along and you will see the staff around the corner checking the screens.

Swine flu at the present is no different than the regular flu in regards to risks.  It does target younger hosts with more severe reactions.  Also it is everywhere so you have just as good a chance at home as traveling.

Dude, It's absolutely FINE.. I travel to hong kong all the time. You should be more worried about getting some virus on the plane whilst travelling more than in Hong kong itself, just like what hunter said.

I have to say I'm consistently impressed with this Forum, and the fact there are generally polite and informative answers, even to questions such as this. Anywhere else, you'd get flamed into cinders.

Bah swine flu , if the death counts get into the millions THEN I would start getting worried , there is a huge hysteria in S Korea (and many people are wearing masks) due to two deaths here, which is NOTHING, more people die on the roads here every hour than that as the driving is terrible and enforcement lax.

OT

A funny joke I heard in Seoul was this:

The RLD the only red light a korean man will stop for...

And being here it is completely true.

Life is short very...
