1) yes, for HG.  For non-HG, for the ones that lists a number, often you'll get the girl herself
2) if you're talking about entering SZ, no, prices are higher.  For a US citizen to get a single entry visa to China, the cost is $1050HKD I think (around $136US).  You might as well get a multiple-entry visa, the price is the same.  If you don't get your visa in the US, you're pretty limited in where you can get it in HK.  It used to be that you could go to any CTS and get it, but nowadays you should go right to the China Foreign Affairs building in Wanchai to get your visa.

$136 US is if you need it the next day.  It's a lower price (I think) if you don't need it so fast.

The price is slightly lower if you do it in the US at one of the consulate offices.  Not much lower though.

If you do enough shopping, and that includes chicken shopping, you'll make up for price in about a couple of trips.  Another thing to consider is that I think the tours into SZ that you see from all the HK hotels will set up a 1 day visa for you at a reduced cost.  Once you cross and stop, sneak away.  You sort of have to know the geography of SZ fairly well to do this though.  There is an MTR stop at the Windows to the World amusement park, so you could just take the MTR #1 line from here all the way to the other end at Luohu, then go to the pink apartments, do your thing, then get back to Windows to the World, probably in as fast as 2 hours.

That seems very high.

During the olympics I had to get a visa at Lowu (only place you could get it at that time) and it cost me HK$450 for a double-entry at that time.

OK the fee changes all the time, and is different for different passports, but it is worth checking.

Anyone done a visa at Lowu recently?

for Shenzhen, there is the single entry 5 day 'SEZ Tourism Visa' available at the Lo Hu crossing. from what i know, this visa
only allows you to stay within the confines of SZ. so, once this visa is issued at Lo Hu, you MUST exit the mainland at any
SZ entry/exit point (not necessarily Lo Hu, could be Lok Ma Chau, Shekou etc). a friend from the UK tried this visa system
recently and it costs him about 450HKD if i remember correctly. this visa is available to most nationalities and there are different
price structures according to the nationality. Americans are rumoured to be unable to get this visa however.

Zhuhai has a similiar 'SEZ Tourism Visa' as well and i think similiar costs and rules apply.

But guys, if you do get such visas, please do not leave the confines of either SZ or ZH as per the visa conditions. We all know
that crackdowns are going on these days. Wouldn't be nice to get checked by a GA in DG with a SZ/ZH-only visa.

the $450 is for HK passport holders.  For U.S. passport holders, it costs a lot more, to the tune of $130US or so....
