The building's closing is old news, many professionals have moved on to other places like Kam Bong and Phoenix. There still seem to be some hangers on, and I understand the last day for business is 30 November.
One of my regulars who has been in that building 10 years plus advises me that the landlord for Kam Bong is asking HKD 15,500 per month with a two-year contract and 3 month deposit for a room which is "small and dirty", because he knows many of the girls have limited options, a 50% increase in the current rent she pays of 10,000 per month. She says she has to move somewhere because she needs to work, but she does not have 45,000 to tie up for 2 years. Her current terms do not require a deposit.
I suspect there are many girls in the same situation.
This is not something most of us punters think of too much about it, but these girls are facing hard times, in addition to their general decreased traffic due to poor stock market performance and general Hong Kong business conditions.
Treat the girls kindly, tip them for good service.
Keep on mongering
