Social Hygiene Service

Has anyone tried the Social Hygiene Clinics?  https://www.dh.gov.hk/english/tele/tele_chc/tele_chc_shcm.html
From what I know, as long as you own a HKID, it's free right? So foreigners with HKID can get it for free
How was your experience? How long did you wait, and do they have doctor consultation after the STD test?

I have visited the one in Wanchai quite a lot. The service is free for HKID holders, regardless of nationality. They test for the usual suspects, like syphilis, gonorrhea and HIV/AIDS, probably chlamydia as well.

At the time of your first visit, a staff member will conduct a short interview, mainly asking whether you like men or women, etc. You will get a registration card that you'll need to show during future visits.

Following registration, you sit down in a waiting area until your name is called. You first see a doctor, who will ask what you've been up to. To decide what tests you need, they'll have to know whether you had oral sex or penetrative sex. The doctor will tell you what tests you need.

Back in the waiting area, you again wait for your name to be called. The tests are administered in different rooms. First of all they will take a blood sample by sticking a needle in your vein. You've probably had that done in a hospital or doctor's clinic before. For the oral test, they take a few throat swabs, not too deep so not uncomfortable. For the LB test, they have to insert a thin thingie a few times. It's not deep, but still a bit uncomfortable.

After all the required samples have been taken, you will need to wait for about 30-45 minutes, after which the doctor you saw the first time around will tell you the result of the rapid tests they did. The definitive results and the result from the blood the test will take about three weeks. You need to go back in person to get the result. I've never tested positive, so I don't know whether they proactively contact you in the event of a positive result (they do ask for a phone no.), but I assume they would, since their goal is to stop any disease from spreading.

My experience is positive. You need to have some time on your hands, but it's all free. If I'm going for the afternoon session, which starts at 2 p.m., I try to get there by 1:30. They have some numbered seats, and the registration line will start from Seat No. 1. If you get there by 2 p.m. or later there will be quite a few people ahead of you.

Wan Chai location

1. Do NOT urinate [pee] for at least 4 hours before the "test tube brush" is rammed into your penis.
Otherwise, the test is meaningless garbage.

2. In classic HKG fashion, no one tells you this information until you see the Lab Tech.

3. The Lab Tech is competent. The doc is not.

4. Arrive in the morning, 30 minutes before they open. Stand in line and wait.
You get a faster in-and-out . . . but the only HJ is the test tube brush, OUCH
NMCOT

5. Be advised, they CANNOT diagnose ureaplasm or mycoplasm which are 2 very common
nasties in HKG. I ended up flying to Edinburgh to get proper treatment.

I have used Neo Health in Central. They are expensive but you dont have to wait and it's pretty quick. Anyone knows how NH compares with the govt clinics esp the ureaplasm or mycoplasm diagnosis?

T'wats mycoplasm. I also went to several private clinics in HKG whose
Quest lab reports defied hallucinogenic dreams for being flat out wrong.

The EDI geriatric NH physician listened, examined then ordered the appropriate
"old fashioned" lab testing. When the results became available [+mycoplasm],
he administered "old fashioned" treatment which cured the problem.

The HKG docs [public & private] used the "latest & greatest" medicines whose
treatment duration was WEEKS too short for a proper cure.Their actions are creating
a STD nightmare of treatment resistent entities in HKG.

Lesson: the tried and true still works even if "out of vogue"

Read reply #5 above listed.

These two entities are very common in HKG. Note, they are rapidly becoming
treatment resistent as the HKG doctors do NOT treat for the necessary length
of time to 100% eradicate. This is weeks, not 7-10 days.

You need a physician with a high "index of suspicion" who is willing to treat based
upon patient history [what you told the doctor] versus a 100% reliance upon
laboratory test results. By my experience, HKG only treats IF there are POSITIVE
lab results.

The EDI NH geriatric physician fixed the problem. HKG [public & private] could not.
