#1 Post at 28-4-2012 16:41  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Macau Speedboat Tried searching but couldn't find anything on this.  I get a lot of motion sickess (took speedboats to the Bali Islands, and most recently to Ko Phi Phi during a Phuket trip.. both making me sick..).  Does anyone know how bad the Speed Boats to Macau from HK are?  If they are really rocky and bump up and down a lot?  I may just opt for the slower ferries... Usually I stay in the back of the boat as its calmer.. don't know if its the same here.  Any info will help.. thanks.

#2 Post at 28-4-2012 16:56  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Usually on nice sunny days, the journey is pretty ok and in fact the TurboJets are cool because they lift the ferry above the water making it a smoother journey (see pic) so probably a better option for you than the slower ferries! Going slow on a boat wont change anything. If you are feeling rich you can catch the helicopter service between HK and Macau, will only take 15 minutes.

I've been on it several times when its been storming and there is very little visibility and the ride is still good. The only time I feel its gets choppy is when its storming and you are embarking/disembarking. Getting off the moving ship onto the stationary ramp/dock gets me a little funny sometimes, but only when its REALLY stormy.

#7 Post at 28-4-2012 22:40  Profile Blog P.M.  Font size: S M L jetfoil to Macau there are jetfoils and catamarans from HK-Macau. both are smooth rides, the strongest motion is when yr getting on/off in Hong Kong. if u get motion sickness, ginger is useful. u can even carry candied ginger and sniff it if u feel ill--i've met ppl who say this works. another method is to pick a fixed point on the horizon and stare at it, sounds weird but it does work: yr vision says things are stable even though yr body's pitching and rolling. needless to say, enter the boat on an empty stomach. if motion sickness is a big problem, Dramamine is the usual med, BUT u take it before u feel any stomach angst. if u are already feeling sick, don't take Dramamine. if all else fails, they have bags on board! The boat is calm at the Macau pier, much rougher at the HK pier.   I avoid getting on until the end.   If it's rainy, stormy, the ride is rough. If it's sunny, the ride is smoother Also depends on the moon's relative position, affects the gravity pull on the water

It's like when I'm driving, I feel fine when I drive, even if it's on a track over and over again but if I'm in the passenger seat, I get a bit dizzy depending on how he/she drives lol
