I would say 'inch' is a literal translation of a Cantonese expression that describes someone with an 'attitude' .... usually derogative.
In Cantonese this also happens to sound like the unit of measurement - an inch; or when used to describe products - used to describe a unit of purchase - like a 'skewer stick' of fishballs from the street vendors or a 'string' of pearls.
In the case of Soni with the attitude - my question is why? Unless your friend's reaction/treatment of Soni is contributory, it doesn't make sense that she would adopt such an attitude towards a paying customer. Perchance is Soni a very popular provider and has adopted this 'tude' as part of her 'style'?
BTW has anyone noticed the resemblance of Soni to another popular hotel lady - Emily - except she is perhaps a couple of sizes smaller?
PS How was her service btw? Inquiring minds....
