Lighting is normal. You may switch the lights off if you want to. Don't worry about lights, there will be enough. TBH I've never seen a dark room, all seem to be well lit however basic the decoration is in other respects. I've been to HGs that like to make the room dim, but I just tell them I can't see their beautiful breasts and turn it back up . I'm not sure about the walk ups, I don't go to those often.
