Is it safe to bring a camera during a meet-up? I wanted to bring a dslr but Im not sure if it is safe but I might frighten the wg by bringing a big camera. I would like to preserve the memories since this will be my lost romp b4 getting married. So should I bring a compact instead?

Lots of bros bring cameras. Many reports, even some by Noobies, have real pics of the girls
and usually earn more credits as a result.

Some bros bring DSLRs or 4/3 cameras. See the discussion in this thread, even though
you don't have enough RA to see the pics themselves.

DSLR is fine but whatever you use, better report and share pictures with the Forum.

Actually, it depends how you present it.

I have shocked girls when I bring out the DSLR but if you want to keep memories it is the only way to go.

The quality can not be compared!

If the girl refuses to take pictures, don't force the issue.  Some girls absolutely don't want any pictures taken.

Pictures got harder after what happened with Edison Chen.  For being safe, just don't flash it around. cover it up.

size of the camera does not matter. although compacts or the G11 sized ones are preferred. if the lady will let you photo, any camera is ok. they are also more used to bros asking for photos, although some will still refuse. it is also easier if you speak Mandarin

Yeah true, I actually am trying to get RA30 to be able to see the pics. but mainly to see the comparison between the db and the real thing but I don't think I would chose the girls in the report I think I have a different type. I just wanted to get my expectations grounded, because at the moment I seem to be placing my expectations to high and I dont know if it is deserved. I might end up getting way to disappointed. So the first 2 will be my measure stick I guess If I should continue or not. If they turn out to be a bust I might just ferry myself over to Macau just to feel better.

no need to tip extra. if they allow photo, they will allow video, although probably not on the 1st visit unless you know the agent very well

I try to take my DSLR where ever I go. The quality is just sooo much better than a point and click or phone camera.
I also get to combine my two favorite hobbies; photography and mongering. Nothing beats the feeling of a good root and a good photo session.

HK is very safe but be conscious you are carrying around an expensive piece of kit.
Hotels girls tend to be a bit more receptive to photos than walk ups.

I have also had great success in Indonesia taking some good picks (search my posts)

A spreadsheet! You could save a lot more time just inputting agents' numbers to your mobile phone or just accessing the mobile version of the DB while on the move. This is really a Nookie Newbie's approach to punting but then you may just have too much time on your hands.

... you will find that 50% will have gone by the time you come ... just the speed of turnover ... your list will be about as useful as yesterday's newspaper ...

So you'll end up finding that it's your SKILL in producing the list that helps you, not the list itself ...

You'll want to make a new list two to three days before coming, with 20-30 names on it max
And then review it the day before coming to come up with a final shortlist of 10-15 names, with the longer list as a reference backup

like I say, being able to do that quickly requires some practice, being able to quickly spot the ones that fit your criteria without spending long on the ones that are second-best.  

Come up with a game-plan for your first day: who will you call first?  where will you go first?  What are your 2-3 fallback options if the first choice bombs for any reason?  That's all you need.  Just go, and play hard.  

Then at the end of the first day, make a new game-plan for the next day ...

Too much early preparation is wasted ... as George Patton said "any plan is out of date the moment you finish it".  Don't try to make a good plan.  Instead, get practiced at making a good plan quickly!!

I'm planning on taking a Sony NEX-3 with me next time. Excellent quality, especially in low light, but without the bulk of an SLR. Am I more likely allowed to take photos/video with a walk-in girl or a HG?

I bring Nikon D700 with me. However, the girl did not allow me take her photo.
So, the matter is that will the girl allow you to take her photo.

Photos really earn Karmas.  I earned the same karmas from 2 reports with pics as I did for the previous 10 reports without pics.
