Are you talking about HK, Macau or SZ ?

rule of thumb is the larger the sauna the more safe they are - for all three areas

HK & Macau generally even the smaller saunas are safe but don't go showing around what you have
nor don't look suspicious by checking for your things in the locker every once in a while !

There was one FS sauna many years ago that opened up the lockers, not to steel anything but to check
for any clues if the client is a pig or not !

In Macau the big saunas would be very safe and have concealed CCTV in the locker rooms. Would be difficult for locker staff to steal anything without being detected. As for other places like HK or Shenzhen, I've never had anything stolen.

I've used saunas all over China, Shanghai, Kunming, Dali. etc. never had anything stolen. Most use a 2 key system, no one can get in without a hacksaw or both keys. If your worried though don't carry more than you need.

Twice is right on the rule of thumb.

However, some cheap customers prefer to save $$ and go to smaller frills SN/SPA.
What happened was the attendant in the locker room opened the customer;s locker and exchange fake notes with the real one.

So eithe u take ur belongings with you or stick with the bigger joints.

Atomic, you really believe the 2 keys system?
They have spare.

well all saunas will know there is big possibility you have several thousand in your locker so you can pay your bill. I think most people pay with cash versus plastic.

I've never had an issue.

I stand corrected. I assume the spare would be in the hands of management, not the towel boys and as such couldn't be accessed without comment.

I understand the rule of having to carry the passport all the time. However, I don't know many foreigners that do that. I've lived in China and never heard of any issues with that.  Losing a few thousand HK is one thing but losing a passport could be a huge pain in the butt.

Agree - but carrying a photocopy of your passport's main pages - including the Immigration dept chop of your last entry is probably a good idea.

You'll usually NOT get stopped in Macau, HKG, China - but it's not 100% and thus a good idea to have such photocopy.  I don't think they'll be THAT strict on this rule of having your ID on you at all times if you can show them such a photocopy - most they'll escort you back to your hotel to actually see your passport.

Thanks all pro!

Ok then I will feel little better after all experts answers.

Like other bro said, losing couple thousand not a big deal but lost Passport is the bigger problem. You know as outside
Visitor our passport always with us.

When i was in HK 2007, i didn't go in any Sauna in HK cuz i was carrying my bag and my passport. So i only call for hotel chicken and 141 building chickens.  After read so many good stuffs about Sauna makes me want to try out from HK and Macus my next visit on Octobet 2010.

Thanks all Pro. Bros!!!

Have a great Friday!

Just use some common sense bro - just pretend its not that safe and you will make wiser decisions. For example, dont take your ferrari to the sauna and put the keys in the locker , instead you can taxi etc.

Generally, the more reputable the sauna the less likely you will have any such problem.

If you do not photocopy main pages like SEAJ recommended then it will be a good idea to at least write down your passport number say in your cell phone and it will be easier to replace at local embassy / consulate.

It has never occur to me to worry about this until now but I guess you have to be careful but I would've through larger or well known saunas has more to lose, if things get lost or missing when you visit them as it would be bad for business.

Since I've only been to one sauna, can you take your wallet in with you to the lounge? or is that not allowed?

You can request a zip bag from saunas to keep your things together in Macau. And mo, they don't search what's in your zip bag...

I carry the toiletry pouch I get from the airlines to put my reading glasses, cell phone, money and passport in it also. All the saunas I've been to in Macau and China have small lockers at the shower area big enough for a small pouch. Not sure about HK as I've only been to a couple.
