I've read the thread about how you can now get to Macau without the incriminating stamp in your passport if you are a non-permenant HKID holder.  However there were no comments form anyone who has actually done it, as it was just starting.  Now it's been around 3 months any bro care to explain how's it work in practise?

unless you have a permanent HKID card, there is no way to avoid a stamp on your travel document. here's more stuff from the macau immigration website:

All visitors must hold a passport or a valid travel document.

Visas are required by all visitors except:

a) Nationals of Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cape Verde, Croatia, Czech, Cyprus, Denmark, Dominica, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lebanon, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Mali, Malta, Mexico, Mongolia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania and the United Kingdom(6 months) for a stay up to 90 days;

b) Nationals of Australia, Canada, Chile, India, Indonesia, Kiribati, Malaysia, Monaco, Namibia, New Zealand, Philippines, Samoa, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey, the United States of America and Uruguay for a stay up to 30 days;

c) Holders of  "Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card" or "Hong Kong SAR Re-entry Permit"; Valid "Hong Kong Identity Card" holders are required to bring their valid passport or travel documents when they enter Macau.

d) Nationals of China with valid Macau entry / depart documents;

e) Holders of Consulate / Diplomatic documents issued by the Macau SAR or Hong Kong SAR;

f) Holders of Diplomatic Passport;

g) Holders of "Laissez Passer" issued by the United Nations; in the course of duty;

h) Holders of travel document issued by the Portuguese authorities for the foreign citizens.

What nationality are you? British people are allowed to carry two UK passports (I've got 3 as a quirk of my Russian motorbike adventure last year), you can apply for them by stating to the passport authority I need to travel and apply for visas at the same time costs £50 for each one.

Americans, French Germans etc aren't allowed more than one.

Through a quirk of birth I have multiple nationalities and therefore multiple passports which is allowed, my friend Verty has 8 citizenships and 24 passports, you can only travel on 2 nationalities at a time as border guards think you are a spy or a terrorist or something!

Ah but the problem is you will be stamped out and stamped back in again ergo your passport will have lots of stamp ins and stamp outs, but no corresponding entry stamp else where which you get everywhere except the EU.

Can I use one passport to just go to Macau with, stamp in and out, saying my proper passport is off getting a visa processed, and the other for everything else?

The passport on which you entered into HK with will have a VISA stamp in it yeah? lets call this passport A, when you leave HK they will put an exit stamp in passport A as you are leaving HK, you can't have this exit stamp in another passport as it is next to the entry visa.



So you use passport B to enter and leave Macau stamp in stamp out. OK?


Problem is how do you get back into HK ? you need to be stamped in on passport A again, so your passport will still have an audit trail related to it, so each time you go to Macau you will have a stamp out and stamp in stamp in passport A.

Which is JUST as incriminating as a macau stamp, as you will be asked where did you go when leaving HK so many times?

I've read somewhere that one does not require to apply for Chinese VISA if you are visiting HK (I'm from the U.S.).  If I were to go from HK, to mainland China, and then to Macau, do I need a separate VISA for Macau?  Thanks.

If you are holding a US passport then you do not need a travel visa for Hong Kong or Macau. However, you will need a travel visa to enter China.

Thank you for the info.  Does the lack of requirement only apply to people holding U.S. passport, or to travelers from Europe and Australia as well?

There is only 3 countries that can enter China visa free - Singapore, Brunei and Japan. All other countries need to apply for visas in order to enter China.

its pretty simple even without doing all the other work, just going in with your passport since unlike China you don't need a VISA thankfully

lol anyone try to get into macau the past few days?  speaking of immigration it was nuts.. I was in line for like almost 2 hours to get past!

dunno why it took so long for you but im guessing you went by boat to the main Macau terminal from hong Kong

But if you are going to Macau again i strongly suggest anyone taking the ferry from hong kong to take the cotai ferry from shung wan roughly the same price and the seats are better. less frequent though at 30 mins a ferry but since the terminal is half built and not many take that ferry, you can get through in under 20 mins unlike the main terminal which can take ages

There are many reasons why most of the punters here take the turbojet ferries to the main Macau terminal instead of taking the cotaijet to Taipa ferry terminal.

1st, Turbojet runs 24 hours every 15 minutes both ways.  Cotaijet runs every 30 mins and has very limited late night (between 1am - 7am) service.  Sometimes after drinking late at lkf or wanchai, one wants to get on the ferry to macau for a consolation reward.  

2nd, In all the info in this forum, the main Macau terminal is the starting point for all directions to the saunas in Macau.  

3rd, Darling 1 is within walking distance of the main Macau terminal.  All other saunas are very close by within quick, cheap taxi rides.  The Taipa terminal is in the middle of nowhere and one cannot walk to anywhere.  Plus a taxi ride from Taipa back to saunas, Lisboa, clubs, bars, etc, in Macau will cost money and will take at least 20-30 mins (depending on traffic).  

4th, From getting off the turbojet boat to going through immigration to leaving the terminal usually does not take more than 20 mins if going to main Macau terminal.  Though the lines may be shorter at Taipa, there is still that 5 minutes walk one has to walk from the cotaijet boat to the immigration building.  

5th, (this one has to be confirmed by a bro).  I think all sauna packages purchased at Shun Tak include a free ride on the Turbojet but are not applicable for the cotaijet.  I think it is so because cotaijet is part of the Venetian group.  

To me the only advantages to taking the cotaijet is that it saves time to go to the Venetian which is only 5 mins from pier, I can get discounted Cotaijet tickets from a travel agency that are cheaper than the discounted Turbojet ones, and I wanted to use the Cotai Frontier Post to go to China.  

So as you can see, one really does not save time, money, or hassles by taking the cotaijet once all of the above are factored.  If there was a 2 hours wait in the immigration at the main Macau terminal, that would have meant Macau was really busy that day with tourists.  This would mean the other terminal at Taipa would have had a long wait too plus there would be alot of street traffic and alot of waiting for taxis too.
