When you come from anywhere but Hk or China, the food in HK is the best. The worst food in HK is better than the best food in overseas chinatowns hands down! When I am in HK, I like to eat as much street food as possible, stinky tofu, mini cakes, fresh squeezed drinks, various herbal teas, bubble tea, japanese dough balls with sauce and bonita flakes, spicy fish balls, my favorite huilaushan, .... then I also like the roasted meats, dunno why but HK roast pork is soooo damn tender! I will do the occasional MCd because I will hanker for it, but don't forget to try the green tea sundae with red beans or the side of corn that we don't have in the states. For dinner, I like to do dai pai dong, either on temple street or the few in MK. And of course, I will have the all out seafood dinners at almost any restaurant. I can just close my eyes and point at any restaurant and it is guaranteed to be better than the crap we get here in NYC. I purposely starve myself to lose 10 lbs before heading to HK or China since I know I am going to put on weight when I get there. Favorite dai pai dong eats? Spicy crab, clams with black bean sauce, half shrimp with garlic, steamed eel, intestines in hot sauce, gorn chow beef hor, i could go on forever... damn i want to get back to HK for some food right about now.
For breakfast, i really like that place someone mentioned before coral de cafe, congee, turnip cake, tea with milk...... YUM! Typical food for southern chinese. Even fast food in hk is better than any food here in NYC.
