I've trawled back through the last 40 pages of this forum, but haven't found an answer to a question I have.

So at the risk of being flamed, I'd like to ask the following question: Lots of guys on here suggest that you should wander around a walk-up building pressing doorbells willy nilly until you find a girl you like.  But how does a poor monger know which doors lead to WGs and which doors lead to ordinary citizens who are not WGs? (bearing in mind that as far as signs might be concerned, I can only read English, not Cantonese)

Well Murphy's Law strikes again - literally minutes after making that earlier post, I stumbled across the following comment in one of the old threads:

"don't worry - there's only one way to go in a walk-up: up the stairs!  The doors that will welcome you are very obvious, with a sign on the door that says "ring bell" or "please wait".  In English and Chinese."

Here is a list of the indicators of a Walk In apartment:

1. You can hear fake female moaning
2. You can hear Man grunts
3. There is a cylindrical pink/red neon light hanging above the door
4. There are multi-coloured cut out signs in Chinese or English outside the door
5. There is a sign on the door that says "ring bell" or "please wait"
6. There are pictures of naked or semi naked women on the door
7. There is a small camera above the door
8. There is a happy or disappointed bloke walking out of the apartment
9. The door opens with a smiley woman who is very happy to see you
10. The door number and address matches the one you saw in the DB
11. There are guys waiting outside of the door
12. You can see one guy or guys who is walking back and forth all the time

So if you see one of these indicator there is a 50% probability, with two indicators it is 70 % and with three or more 99% (except for the combination of 2, 11 and 12 because it could be a public toilet )

I was trying to be funny in my previous reply. I was going to also add a few more onto the list such as 1. You can smell cheap shower gel 2. You can hear Queefing noises but I realised that I am also a newbie in the world of mongering

So I then tried to be more helpful by adding things into the list that may help other newbies (but it came out in a slight mocking manner )

Best way is to trawl the DB first, and write your own shortlist, complete with the girl's name, address, phone number and PRICE.

Personally I never go knocking on doors at random, I always head for a specific address.  Too many pork chops otherwise, I'm picky enough to avoid most of the 141s.

Having said that on two occasions (but only two) an opportunistic girl has come out and pulled me into her room, when I hesitated in front of a "Please Wait" sign on the door next to hers.

Tip for buildings such as Fuji:
If when you get into the lift at the bottom there are many other punters getting in with you, most will likely get off at the top floor to begin the trawl downstairs... To be ahead of the game, get off a couple of floors before the top, so you get to knock on doors before that crowd! You miss the top couple of floors though, but you can always go back up to the top later if you get down to the bottom again without any luck!

LOL... you are talking about me running down the stairs!  This is exactly what I do!  Sometimes there is a lot of competition up there...  your plan makes sense, but what if the best ones are up top? LOL... you have to wait for the other bros to finish first...  I've bumped elbows with fellow mongers too, although it's usually all in fun and we usually say that one is good or that one is good.  Great thing about HK bros is that they are all cordial, I've had a few guys offer me first dibs even though they wanted in too.

Haven't visited that place for over a year now, so felt safe to let this tip out! Though of course, clever punters like you will have plenty of tricks up your sleeve!

why not just start at the bottom and then walk up?  I would imagine you would need some stamina but, i think most head to the top and take the easy way down.  I would rather get the cardio on up the stairs, puts more blood to the lower end of the body too.

... do you often walk up 20 floors?  

There was a time I used to do 8 a couple of times a day ... I found that was plenty ...

Well I've just completed my first ever mongering experience.  It wasn't what you would call a successful outcome, but I will submit a report never-the-less...

Instead of starting another thread about my question, I will post it in this related thread since I was unable to search it.

People often talk about these 141 walk up buildings being 20 stories tall. Really?? How big are the buildings? So, it is really 20 floors , how many rooms per floor? Is the whole building (every room) have one WG per room?

well just to wax a bit of linguistic history in here, do you know what "141" means?  141 is a slang for "one floor one", which is a shortened abbreviation for the Chinese term 一樓一鳳, translated roughly to "one floor, one girl".  So "one floor one" converts into "141".  So back in the olden days, yeah there would have been one girl on each floor.  But alas, high rise mansions and apartments usually are built with multiple rooms per floor nowadays.  In the case of Fuji, there's 6 per floor, but some of the floors have fewer and at least one floor has a legit business on the whole floor if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks JeSun - here's a question. Do regular Hongkongers, i.e. non-mongerers, understand what '141' means? The reason I ask is that I recently left my mongering list on a table and had written 141 at the top. Somebody saw it before I pushed it aside. Do you think he knew what it was?

Heck I didnt know what 141 meant though im not a regular HKer. But, thanks to JeSun to explained it to me.
So, since not all rooms on the floor is are WG's, then what occupies these adjacent rooms? Are they residential? Commerical offices? Wouldnt their be too much moaning for regular HKers to be on the same floor as WG rooms?
So afterall, since not all rooms are occupied by WG's in the 141 buildings, it means its not so embarrassing walking up to them? - since people May assume you are seeing a WG BUT there is a real possibility that you may live there? or be visiting a regular HKer? or going to work there? Hmmm a million questions seem popping up as I write this.

Let me tell you, EVERYONE knows what 141 is.  Even here, the sex part of the Sing Tao Newspaper has 141 once in a while in it too.  We call it, "yut lau, yut fung"  I think it means, one floor, one phoenix.  The only people who may not know are women who just don't pay attention, but I'll tell you, even my wife knows what it is.

You crazy! LOL... I'll tell you, I've done (I forget which building) but it was in MK where I could not find a single good one "available" at the time because I was in a hurry, I made it down 10 floors ringing about 4 doors per floor and rejecting every single one of them in record time.  Probably less than 15 mins.  Yeah I was flying.

every HKer will know what the Chinese term for "one floor one phoenix' will mean, but my guess is that most won't equate the number "141" to it.  It's similar to the number 69 if one sees it written down somewhere.  A deviant like myself would immediately start thinking about something sexual whereas the average person probably wouldn't think that way.  Speaking of that, it was funny, a few years back, when 80 channel TV cable systems were the norm, i.e. channels would go from 2 to 79, Comcast decided to assign channel 69 to the Playboy Channel.  Of course, perverts like myself picked up on that.
