c-hing

Apologies if this has been asked and answered, but I did a search on post titles (at my
current level, search on body text is disabled) and no joy:

What does "c-hing" (or "ching") mean?

M'goi sai, asia-play.

Is it pronounced "see-hing" or "ching", as in pinyin "jing"?

In the Chinese martial art world, a c-hing is a male apprentice under the same master as you, and who is older than you, or at least began learning from the master before you. It's a kind of term of respect and is used a lot over on the Chinese forum.

Probably a dumb question, but can a westerner call a Chinese guy "a Ching", or is its use limited to those who are Chinese?

Thanks CL.  I'm always interested in the rules applying to cross-cultural relations.
